RECOMMENDED ACTION
Award a contract to R.B. Welding, Inc. for ladder improvements at the Maxine Pump Station for an
amount not to exceed $53,000.
DISCUSSION
The Maxine Pump Station pumps sewage water from the City's collection system to the Orange
County Sanitation District trunk sewer. The station's dry well has an access ladder that is not in
compliance with the current Cal OSHA regulation.
The notice inviting bids was advertised on March 30, 2010, and bids were solicited. A summary of
the bid invitations and bids received is as follows:

2 Bids received
Bids were solicited and opened on April 21, 2010, and evaluated. The bid received from R.B.
Welding, Inc. is responsive to the specifications and meets the City's requirements. To allow for
unanticipated installation issues, an additional ten percent contingency has been included in the
award amount. The lowest bid submitted for $49,000 is below the Engineer's estimate of $60,000.
