ITEM 16
1 support this item. The youth of Orange County need open space and a place to learn all that golf
has to offer. Maintaining an affordable venue like the Riverview Golf Course will ensure future
generations have a place to play. A well-known fact is a kid by the name of Tiger Woods played
there. Maybe another aspiring kid lives right around the corner.

ITEM 9
Commissions play an important role in City business. The staff report looks good and clearly
identifies status of Borrds and Commissions. There are a lot of vacancies! One council member
shows a vacancy in 5 out of the 11 commissions. One commissioner had two consecutive unexcused
absences, but I cannot identify as to whether or not they were removed since the Roster of Current
Vacancies and Expired Terms does not include all seven members of council.

Good morning Mayor, Council and Staff,
I have reviewed Item #16 which is to be presented to the council for approval:
Agreement with Santa Ana Golf, LLC, a Wholly Owned Subsidiary of CourseCo, Inc., for River
View Golf Course Management Services (Specification No. 26-002) (Non-General & General
Fund)
It has been close to one year ago when I became aware of the lease expiring at River View Golf
Course and I was excited. Mainly, I had suggested to the Parks and Recreation Commission that
we establish a golf program for the children. Golf clinics and golf lessons for our kids would be
terrific and set the stage for their future growth in Corporate America. This is a sport where our
Latino / Hispanic / Chicano / Mexican American are poorly represented.
Mr. Scotts team was graceful in responding to my concerns which are as follows:
1. In assuring golf is accessible and affordable to the children of Santa Ana
2. In assuring we the people of Santa Ana are in fact generating revenue
When I read that over 3 Million ($3,083,377.00) of our taxes are being paid to a golfing
management team which does not include an additional $1 million of funds moving from one
column to the other - it catches my attention. As you know, I volunteer as a baseball coach and
flag football coach for the Parks and Recreation and I literally have to beg to get a working
pitching machine (which was provided); new football flags (which have not been provided) and
a working football time clock (which have not been functional for 3 plus years and not
provided) amongst Diamond 4 at Jerome which is a mess. Diamond 4 is so bad our players can't
even see the chalk or the bases and there is no shade for my players. Consequently, I have to
question where is the priority - clearly, not so much in baseball or football - but if I don't raise
my hand, you would think all is fine.
I had a candid email with Cori Lantz who has been assigned to "manage" the "management
team" and I clearly expressed that my only intent is ensuring golf is accessible mainly
affordable to both the boys and girls of Santa Ana. I am putting my trust that this will be
effectively and efficiently implemented.

Therefore, I am asking this council for a "yes" vote on Item #16. In turn, I will continue to
voice my opinion regarding baseball and football with Mr. Hawk and his team.

Please approve the Corse co contract and keep this valuable asset to our community.
The golf course is more than an affordable place for our residents to enjoy. It is providing valuable habitat and is an
oxygen producer That counteracts the pollution generated in our city.
Many of my neighbors have golf carts and most don't even golf but due to a CA law that allows the use of golf carts
within a mile of a course, these electric carts help reduce pollution and encourage neighbors to interact with each
other.. These carts are used in 4th of July parades and more.
Finally the course adds to property values which keep property taxes high which help the city fund other programs.
