Re: Council Meeting of March 17, 2026
Subject: Item #8 – Measure X
With respect to the Council Meeting of March 17, 2026 I did want to express that should Measure X go on any
future ballot – I would vote “yes”. I do not want to see it “sunset”. I have no issue paying a higher city tax in
return for all of the services Measure X has provided to the community.
However, on April 20, 2026, the OC Register wrote an article stating that the Measure X oversight committee
has not met in seven months due to a few Wards not having a representative. If there is no oversight committee,
then who determines where these funds go? According to the OC Register there are more than $82 million in
taxpayer funds, and the city has spent $73.2 million.
It is in the best interest to maintain the integrity of these taxpayer funds. If not, it will leave most voters
questioning where their monies are spent and if monies spent truly benefit us the residents and not be deemed a
“fiscal Band-Aid” as the OC Register noted.
Thank you,
Gay Olivos
