I received a call from Det. Sgt. M. Sarabia #2565 of the Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) Homicide

Sgt. Barragan informed us that he responded to . at approximately 1845 hours when MET
Detectives T. Bell #3656 and J. McKee #3467 located the driver/suspect on the east sidewalk. The suspect
ZDV IRXQG ZLWK DSSUR[LPDWHO\ IRXU DSSDUHQW JXQVKRW ZRXQGV WR WKH OHJV DQG OHIW VKRXOGHU 7KH GHWHFWLYHV
rendered medical aid, which included applying tourniquets to the suspect¶s extremities.
Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) Engine 75 personnel arrived on scene and transported the suspect to
2&*0& $W DSSUR[LPDWHO\ KRXUVUHSRUWHG WKH VXVSHFW ZDV LQ VWDEOH FRQGLWLRQ
A bullet core was located within the suspect¶V FORWKLQJ 6$3' )6 6 9D]TXH] WRRN SKRWRJUDSKV RI
the suspect at the hospital. The suspect was subsequently identified as Marvin Ricardo Melgarejo, a
documented ³Bishop Street´gang member with the moniker of ³Saint.´Melgarejo had prior arrests for illegal
firearms possession. Ofcr. D. Bland #3753 and Ofcr. D. Taroy #3756 were standing by with Melgarejo in
room #420.
A female subsequently identified as Marisol Lopez arrived on scene and identified Melgarejo as her son.
Sgt. Barragan asked Ofcr. Cofer and Ofcr. Santaella for a public safety statement. Ofcr. Cofer provided the
same statement he provided Cpl. Speakman. Ofcr. Santaella reported he fired six times in a northbound
GLUHFWLRQ IURP 5RVHZRRG $YH DQG %LVKRS 6W 7KHUH ZDV RQH DUPHG RXWVWDQGLQJ VXVSHFW ZKR ZDV WKH
GULYHU RI WKH YHKLFOH 7KH LWHPV DW WKH VFHQH EHORQJHG WR 0HOJDUHMR 7KH\ FRQVLVWHG RI D FHOO SKRQH DQG
clothing cut from Melgarejo¶s person by paramedic personnel.
A male identified as residing at reported hearing five gunshots and then
REVHUYLQJ WKH VXVSHFW GLVFDUG DQ LWHP LQWR WKH EDFN\DUG RI D QHLJKERULQJ UHVLGHQFH 2IFU 0 0DULJQROL
#3858 searched the backyard of 1048 W. Myrtle St. and recovered a black baseball hat with a white ³B´
ORJRSgt. Barragan concluded the briefing.

with Melgarejo were medical staff.

Inv. Toth and I interviewed Melgarejo's treating Registered Nurse (RN), . SAPD
Professional Standards Sgt. J. Lopez #3029 was also present in the interview. The interview was
conducted in the fourth floor Medical Surgical Unit. Inv. Toth digitally recorded the interview.
told us she had been a licensed California RN for nine years. In addition, she has worked for
OCGMC as an RN for nine years.
