For further details of the original call for service, please refer to Officer C. Perez #3984 Crime Report under the same CI number. It shall be noted that during the incident, my department-issued Axon body-worn camera (BWC) was activated and recorded. All statements made below are summarizations of the facts and circumstances that shall not be taken as all- encompassing of the event. For exact dialogue and sequence of events, please see BWC footage. Arrival: Officer Nevarez and I responded in full uniform in a marked black and white patrol vehicle. We were tasked with holding the perimeter west of the residence located at 1718 South Birch at 1719 South Ross Street. An airship had responded and provided the location of two possible suspects located one house east of our location, 1718 South Birch. Officer M. Benavides #3766 arrived to assist in holding the perimeter. Officer Nevarez conducted a records check of the residence where the suspects were located. The records check revealed that one residents were linked to an attempted murder and had prior weapons violations. We were informed by the airship that one of the suspects from the residence was making their way west through the backyard and out the south side gate of 1719 South Ross Street. Due to my training and experience, criminals often tend to hold on to their waistband because they are concealing a weapon, possibly a handgun. I presented my firearm and gave approximately six commands to “stop,” “put your hands up,” and “stop right there”. continued to hold on to his waistband and walk forward. I approached with my firearm drawn, and he immediately turned and ran east through the backyard gate on the south side of 1719 South Ross, holding on to the front of his waistband. Officer Nevarez and I chased through the side gate and into the backyard of the residence, where had turned and faced us. Officer Nevarez gave commands for to get on the ground, and he refused. Officer Nevarez conducted a takedown on and pushed him to the ground in a prone position. Please see Officer Nevarez’s supplemental report under the same CI number for further. With both of my hands, I grabbed right arm to place him in handcuffs. He immediately tensed up and tried to tuck his right arm under his body. I pulled his right arm out by grabbing onto his forearm with my right hand and his wrist with my right hand. Officer Benavides arrived and assisted in taking into custody. Please see his supplemental report for further information. I held onto right arm until Officer Nevarez was able to free his left arm. Santa Ana PD 2025-11359 Report by Monaco, Gabriella 3996 3 of 4 I placed my handcuffs on right arm, and Officer Nevarez freed left arm from under his body and handed it to me. was transported to Orange County Global Hospital, where he was treated by medical professionals to be medically cleared for booking. OCFA engine #74 and Falck #6799 responded to provide medical aid to ambuance run #OCE 25-082148. Officer Nevarez and I followed the ambulance transporting to the hospital and stood by him until I was relieved from my duties by Officers L. Casillas #3755 and C. Perez #3984.
