Townsend in the city of Santa Ana. I met with Forensic Scientist F. Burke, OCDA Investigator D. Fulcher, Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) Detective R. Wilson, and SAPD Sergeant P. Craft. Senior Forensic Specialist K. Cogert was also present at the scene. SAPD Sergeant P. Craft informed me a radio code was called out for officers involved in a gun battle and a female suspect was down in the area of 805 S. Townsend. Two SAPD officers were involved in the incident. The location was an alley that ran north and south. Multi-unit complexes with detached garages were on the east side (S. Raitt Street) and west side (S. Townsend Street) of the alley. Two marked SAPD units were parked in the alley. Unit #854 was a Ford Crown Victoria (CA: 1226270) and was parked along the east side of the alley and faced north. The engine was off, the doors were closed, and the front windows were rolled down. Unit #880 was a Ford Crown Victoria (CA:1226215) and was parked along the east side of the alley, faced north, and was behind Unit #854. OALIPO.NIA FR#: 13-48764 Cartridge cases, bullets, and bullet fragments were strewn throughout the alley from 810 S. Raitt Street and 809 S. Townsend Street to 729 S. Townsend Street. There were two types of cartridge head stamps, Winchester 45 Auto and Winchester 40 S&W. A piece of metal was near the west garage wall of 806 S. Raitt Street and a plastic toy gun with apparent blood was east of805 S. Townsend Street garage wall. A syringe, medical debris, and an apparent bullet with blood was between the alcove of 805 S. Townsend Street and SAPD Unit #880. A pair of sunglasses was under SAPD Unit #880 near the right rear tire. Parked in the alcove was a silver Nissan Xterra (CA: with a strike mark on the tailgate of the vehicle. Holes and strike marks were in the east walls, garage door frame, garage door, and pillar of 809 and 805 S. Townsend Street and 729, 730, and 802 S. Raitt Street. Lead Forensic Specialist S. Moore and Forensic Specialist L. Camacho assisted me with the sketches. Rough sketches with measurements were completed and a computer assisted drawing (CAD) can be created available upon request. UCI MEDICAL CENTER: I responded to the Douglas Hospital emergency room bed #16 located within UCI Medical Center in the city of Orange and met with the following investigators: DA Investigator K. DeGraffenreid, SAPD Detective J. Launi, SAPD Detective J. Garcia, and OCSD Deputy Coroner B. Beasley. I was requested to take photographs of the decedent Jessica GONZALEZ. Injuries were observed and photographed on the following areas of her body: right arm, left side of chest, back, and left shoulder. RESULTS and INTERPRETATIONS: The two Glock pistols were test fired and both operated without malfunction. Twelve fired cartridge cases from the scene were determined to have been fired in the Glock Model 21 pistol, #HAY924. Eight fired cartridge cases from the scene were determined to have been fired in the Glock Model 22 pistol, #LXN640. The jacket from EM37 and the bullets from EM32, EM38, EM40 and EM-N all share class characteristics with the Glock Model 21 pistol, #HA Y924. Microscopic comparisons were not done at this time. The bullet from the White Shirt and the jacket from EM28 share class characteristics with the Glock Model 22 pistol, #LXN640. The bullet from EM18 and the jacket fragments from the Left Chest, EM21, EM23, EM29, EM35 and EM-Fall share features that are similar to the SXT® cartridges received with the Glock Model 22 pistol and features that are dissimilar to the T-Series® cartridges received with the Glock Model 21 pistol. The pistol is equipped with a functional disconnector and trigger safety. The striker of the pistol will release with approximately five and one-quarter pounds of trigger pull. The pistol was test fired using four of the twelve cartridges from one of the magazines. The bullet weighs approximately 176 grains and has marks from six-sided right twist polygonal rifling. Apparent cloth and biological material on the bullet was collected and retained with the bullet. OCCL Item 14 -Projectiles from autopsy. The projectile from the Left Chest is a small copper jacket fragment from a Winchester brand SXT® jacketed hollow point bullet. The fragment weighs less than one grain and lacks marks suitable for further classification. The projectiles from the Lumbar Spine consist of a lead bullet core and three small lead fragments. The core weighs approximately 131 grains and is too damaged for classification. The three small lead fragments have a combined weight of approximately one grain and all lack marks suitable for classification. The projectile from the Left Breast Wound is a small lead fragment that weighs less than one grain and lacks marks suitable for classification. The jacket weighs approximately 32 grains and has marks from six-sided right twist polygonal rifling. The projectile from EM29 is a copper jacket fragment from a Winchester brand SXT® jacketed hollow point bullet. The jacket weighs approximately 16 grains and has marks from right twist polygonal rifling. The projectile from EM32 is a partially expanded .45 Auto caliber Winchester brand T-Series® jacketed hollow point bullet. The bullet weighs approximately 231 grains and has marks from eight-sided right twist polygonal rifling. Apparent biological material present on the bullet was collected and retained with the bullet. Townsend Street in the city of Santa Ana to assist in the investigation of an officer involved shooting. Present at the scene were Orange County Crime Laboratory (OCCL) Senior Forensic Specialist Cogert and Lead Forensic Specialist Tran; Orange County District Attorney (OCDA) Investigators Fulcher and Wood; and Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) Detective Wilson as well as other OCDA and SAPD personnel. OCCL Lead Forensic Specialist Moore and OCCL Forensic Specialist Camacho arrived later. The scene was located in the alley between the apartments on S. Townsend Street to the west and S. Raitt Street to the east. The scene extended in the alley from the units at 729 South Townsend Street to 809 S. Townsend Street on the west and from the units at 730 S. Raitt Street to 810 S. Raitt Street on the east. 805 South Townsend Street garage #1 was in the northeast corner of the building. North of 805 S. Townsend Street garages one through five and north of the driveway were 805 S. Townsend Street garages six through ten. 805 S. Townsend Street garage #6 was in the west end of the building. 805 S. Townsend Street garage #10, labeled "0," was in the east end of the building. Immediately south of 805 S. Townsend Street garage #1 was 809 S. Townsend Street garage #5. A dumpster was in the alley along the east wall of 809 S. Townsend Street garage #5. East of805 S. Townsend Street garage #1 parked facing north on the east side of the alley was SAPD unit 854 (CA 1226270). SAPD Unit 854 was not running; the parking lights were on; the doors were closed; and the front driver door and front passenger door windows were down. North of SAPD Unit 854 facing north was SAPD Unit 880 (CA 1226215). SAPD Unit 880 was running; the doors were closed; and the front driver door and front passenger door windows were down. One cartridge case with Headstamp (HS) "WINCHESTER 45 AUTO" was on the ground northwest of 810 S. Raitt Street garage #10 [Evidence Marker (EM) 1]. Northwest of EM 1 on the ground in the alley between 809 S. Townsend Street to the west and 810 S. Raitt Street to the east were five cartridge cases with HS "WINCHESTER 45 AUTO" (EM 2 through EM 6). South of809 S. Townsend Street garage #5 was one cartridge case with HS "WINCHESTER 45 AUTO" (EM 7). An apparent bullet hole was in the east wall of 809 S. Townsend Street garage #5 near the south end of the dumpster (EM A). In the east wall of 805 S. Townsend Street garage #1 were one bullet hole (EMF), two apparent bullet holes (EM B and EM D), and nine apparent strikemarks (EM C, EM E, EM G, EM H and EM I). A bullet jacket was recovered from EMF. The three apparent strikemarks at EM G, the two apparent strikemarks at EM H, and one apparent strikemark at EM I tested positive with a presumptive test for lead. One black, size womens 8 "Vans" shoe and one brown, size 9M boot were collected from 805 S. Townsend Street garage #1. On the ground north of 805 S. Townsend Street garage #1 was an apparent bullet jacket fragment (EM 28). On the ground east of the east wall of 805 S. Townsend Street garage #1 was a partial plastic toy gun with apparent blood on it (EM 25). North of EM 25 and east of 805 S. Townsend Street garage #1 on the ground was an apparent bullet fragment (EM 26). North of EM 26 on the ground was medical paraphernalia and one loaded syringe with apparent blood on it (EM 30). North of EM 32 and southeast of 805 S. Townsend Street garage #10 on the ground was an apparent bullet jacket fragment (EM 35). Five vehicles were parked in the driveway north of 805 S. Townsend Street garages one through five. Four vehicles faced west and one vehicle faced east. An apparent strikemark was in the tailgate of the west facing Nissan Xterra ) (EM J). An apparent bullet hole was in the frame west of the garage door for 805 S. Townsend Street garage #10 (EM K). An apparent bullet hole was in the garage door of 805 S. Townsend Street garage #10 (EM L) with an apparent corresponding bullet hole (EM Ll) in the plywood north wall of the garage. An apparent bullet hole (EM M) was in the east edge of the garage door of 805 S. Townsend Street garage #10 with an apparent corresponding strikemark on the piece of metal on the interior surface of the garage door. A Chevy Camaro () was parked in 805 S. Townsend Street garage #10 and a jacketed bullet was on the floor of 805 S. Townsend Street garage # 10 (EM 40). North of EM 6 on the ground in the center of the alley were two cartridge cases with HS "WINCHESTER 45 AUTO" (EM 8 and EM 9). Southeast of SAPD Unit 854 on the ground near the west wall of 810 S. Raitt Street garage #1 were three cartridge cases with HS "WINCHESTER 40 S& W" (EM 10 through EM 12). On the ground south of the right rear tire of SAPD Unit 854 was an apparent bullet jacket fragment (EM 13). On the ground south of the left rear tire of SAPD Unit 854 was one cartridge case with HS "WINCHESTER 40 S&W" (EM 14). On the ground near the left rear tire of SAPD Unit 854 were three cartridge cases with HS "WINCHESTER 45 AUTO" (EM 15 through EM 17). On the ground west of the left front tire of SAPD Unit 854 was an apparent bullet fragment (EM 20). On the ground under SAPD Unit 854 and near the left front tire was an apparent bullet jacket fragment (EM 21). Komen" sunglasses was on the ground under SAPD Unit 880 near the right rear tire (EM 33); a cartridge case with HS "WINCHESTER 40 S&W" (EM 34) was on the ground under SAPD Unit 880 near the left front tire. The autopsy was performed by Dr. DAVENPORT and the photographs were taken by OC Crime Lab (OCCL) Forensic Specialist SAHAGUN. Also present were Orange County District Attorney (OCDA) Investigator DAWSON and Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) Detective RODRIGUEZ. The decedent, an adult female, was supine on a gurney in a closed body bag. The decedent was unclothed and paper bags covered her hands. Medical paraphernalia was attached to her body. I removed and collected the paper bags. I examined her hands. Her fingernails were short, dirty and unbroken. Apparent blood was on her hands. Nothing else of significance was observed on her hands. I collected fingernail scraping swabs and hand swabs from her right and left hands. Abrasions were observed on her face near her right eye and on her back. An apparent surgical incision was below her left breast. An apparent gunshot graze wound, an apparent gunshot entry wound and an apparent gunshot exit wound were in her right arm; an apparent gunshot re-entry wound was in her right underarm; an apparent gunshot exit wound was in her left chest; an apparent gunshot entry wound was in her left back; an apparent gunshot entry wound was in her right back; and an apparent gunshot exit wound was in the center of her back. The gunshot wounds were examined with an illuminated magnifier. No soot, tattooing or stippling was observed. I had the apparent gunshot entrance wounds from her right arm, right back and left back excised. The excised wounds were examined with a stereomicroscope. No apparent gunpowder particles were observed. I received bullet fragments recovered from the left chest cavity, the lumbar spine and the left breast wound . I also received a bullet recovered from the lumbar spine.
