Woman killed by police in Santa Ana had replica gun

A woman killed by police on Sunday had a replica gun and was considered a suspect in a homicide in Orange last week, police said.
A woman shot and killed by police in Santa Ana on Sunday was carrying a replica of a gun, authorities said.
Santa Ana police confirmed in a news release that the woman, identified as 35-year-old Jessica Gonzalez, was a suspect wanted
in connection with a recent homicide being investigated by police in Orange.
The incident occurred around 9 a.m. Sunday when two officers were on patrol in the area of 800 S. Townsend. The officers
encountered Gonzalez in an alley, and there was "some type of altercation which led to an officer involved shooting. She was
struck, transported to UCI Medical Center, where she died. There was a gun located at the scene. We now know that
was a replica gun," said Anthony Bertagna, a corporal with Santa Ana police.
Three separate investigations are under way, including one from the district attorney's office, one from Santa Ana homicide,
and one from Internal Affairs, but so far the officers involved in the shooting have not been interviewed, Bertagna said.
