Executive Director Mouet gave a PowerPoint presentation on the upcoming Landscape
Request for Proposal.

2. NOMINATIONS FOR SPECIAL SERVICE AWARD TO THE YOUTH AND COMMUNTIY
OF SANTA ANA
Motion to nominate Catherine Cate for her recent contributions to the Santa Ana Zoo.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Calendars for April and May 2009 were reviewed and discussed. Events of note:
March 28: Cesar Chavez In-Service Day at Jerome Park
April 2: Farewell Potluck for Lorraine Lazarine-McCarty at 11:30 a.m.
April 16: Barrier Free Basketball Court Ribbon Cutting at Thornton Park, 9:00 a.m.
April 17-19: Carnival at Cesar Chavez/Campesino Park
STATUS/UPDATES
1. COMMITTEE ON FIELD USE (CoFU) – Committee met on March 25, 2009. Approved staff
recommendations of First Strike Letter, 30-day Probation and fine imposed on Santiago
Little League for using a field when closed. Discussed issues regarding Mud Line policy.
Issues around recent Chivas USA soccer clinic at the Stadium discussed. No show
reservations on fields with lights will be fined. Effective May 2009, CoFU will be meeting at
the Southwest Senior Center.
2. COMMUNITY CONTACT REPORTS AND UPDATES – No report.

PUBLIC COMMENTS
Steve McGuigan – Board Member of Friends of Santa Ana Zoo (FOSAZ)
New babies at the Zoo, now up to 55 monkeys
New event person with FOSAZ, Marissa.
There will be Zoo representation at the April 25th “Dia de Los Niños” event at the Library, at
the same time that the Zoo will be celebrating Party for the Planet and Zoo-B-Que. Please
stop by either or both events.
The Centro Cultural de Mexico will also present a “Dia de Los Niños” event on April 26th at
3rd and Bush from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Would like to suggest to the Board to consider the organization, Rebuilding Together, as a
future Community Service Award recipient for their continued efforts throughout the City.
Zoofari is scheduled for August 22nd, theme will be “Funky Monkey”.
Zoo summer concerts are scheduled for June 14th, June 28th and July 19th. Various local
artists from the Artist Village will be highlighted.

STAFF/CONSULTANT COMMENTS
G. Mouet
Agency items slated for the April 6th Council Meeting are: Bid rejection for work at Memorial Pool (will
need to start over on bid process, will be done after the summer’s aquatics season is over); T-Mobile
Cell Tower Lease at Thornton Park; Agreement with Southwest Property Investments for
improvements at Cabrillo Tennis Center; Land Use Agreement with Orange County Flood Control for
Bike Trail Improvements; Award Bid for repairs to drainage and concrete throughout the Civic Center
Area.
Will provide a Budget Update to the Board at the April meeting.
Some Zoo staff in Guyana right now selecting and bringing back two Giant Anteaters. The Tierra de
Las Pampas project is going well, scheduled to be completed by mid-June.
R. Ono
Council tabled the renewal of the ATS Agreement at their March 16th meeting. Current agreement
has expired and will not be renewed unless it is requested by Council or Staff.
BOARD/STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COMMENTS
J. Stroud
Inquired about status of the Graffiti Court Referral Program. Executive Director indicated still with
Agency for now.
Inquired about the status of the Catalina Excursion. Executive Director indicated that it is still
scheduled to occur.
Was able to confirm a $1,000 donation to the Catalina Excursion from Assemblyman Jose Solorio.
W. Tobiska
Shared recent problems with Time Warner Cable Service. Executive Director will inform Cable
Consultant for follow up.
Would like to discuss, at a future meeting, why Santa Ana does not allow for more than two providers
as other cities do.
M. Madrid
As of April 15th, will be working part time as a Youth Coordinator for Senator Lou Correa.
K. Nguyen
Inquired about where staff would be moving to as the Administrative building is being vacated.
Executive Director shared relocation plans.
T. Leon
Inquired about the status of the monies raised for the Farmers’ Market at a previous Rubber Boot
Race. This will be an agenda item for a future meeting.
Would like to see the Jerome Community Garden open to the community more than just one day a
week. This will be an agenda item for a future meeting.
On April 4th at 6:00 p.m., there will be a Cesar Chavez film premier, featuring Dolores Huerta as the
Key Note Speaker, at the Yost Theater. There will also be informational booths outside the theater
from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The ring road at Centennial Park will be repaved the week of April 6th.
