MINUTES Approve Minutes of Regular Meeting held on October 28, 2009. 2. ABSENCES Excuse the absence of Frank Acosta. ** END OF CONSENT CALENDAR ** D. BUDGET UPDATE PowerPoint presentation made by Executive Director G. Mouet entitled “Reinventing PRCSA”. Copy on file with Recording Secretary for review. 2. REVIEW OF COMMITTEE ON FIELD USE (CoFU) STRUCTURE In response to Parks, Recreation, Education and Youth (PREY) Council Committee’s request to review CoFU structure, Recreation Superintendent J. Rios prepared handout for Board to review, as CoFU was created at the June 26, 2002 Board Meeting. Discussion ensued regarding Board’s role and actions on process and development. Item tabled to regular meeting of January, 2010. 3. WILLARD SYNTHETIC TURF / PROP 84 UPDATE Administrative Services Manager R. Ono provided updates on action / activities to date. UPCOMING EVENTS Calendar for December, 2009 and January, 2010 reviewed. Board meeting in December moved to the 16th from the 23rd, as well as CoFU. December 24th and 25th are City Holidays. STATUS/UPDATES 1. COMMITTEE ON FIELD USE (CoFU) – Facility Use Policies and Procedures document further reviewed and finalized. Final review by CoFU to be done in December, will then come before the Board. CoFU also reviewing committee membership requirements and procedures. 2. LIBRARY SERVICES COMMITTEE – No report. 3. COMMUNITY CONTACT REPORTS AND UPDATES – None. 4. PENDING ITEMS/ACTION ITEMS FOR FUTURE MEETINGS Review of CoFU Membership Structure (Jan) Management of Fiestas Patrias (Feb) Rosita / T-Mobile Cell Tower Update (future) Park Signage Update (future) Car Wash Policy (future) COMMENTS PUBLIC COMMENTS None UNAPPROVED MINUTES Board of Recreation and Parks Minutes of November 18, 2009 Meeting Page 3 of 4 STAFF/CONSULTANT COMMENTS J. Rios Next season’s Leisure Class Brochure will be mailed out end of December/early January. R. Ono Will be in Anaheim serving as a judge for California Parks and Recreation Society’s Park Design competition. J. Perez Happy Thanksgiving. M. Lopez In the process of review all signage in parks as result of a previous Community Contact Form submittal. Park Services staff attended the 2009 Landscape Expo in Long Beach. Working with animal control specialist to control rabbit population in Santiago Park. Will also be serving as a judge for California Parks and Recreation Society’s Park Operations competition. BOARD/STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COMMENTS D. Orea Happy Thanksgiving. W. Tobiska OCHSA students will be doing “Where the Wild Things Are” activities at the Main Library on Saturday, November 21st from 10:30am to 11:30am. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. J. Stroud Inquired about who the consultant was for the Prop 84 grant? Staff responded that a consultant has been contracted to write this grant only. Requested an update on the Rosita cell tower issue. Staff advised that the cell company is still calling the City. Residents of the Morrison Park area are very happy with the new trash/recycle receptacles. Be sure to check out the article in the OC Register on Patrick Mitchell. West End COP program would like to request bleachers and equipment for their Christmas Party. M. Madrid Happy Holidays. Will be out of town during the December Board meeting. A Santa Ana Marine, Justin Swanson, passed away and his funeral service will be on November 21st at Noon in Los Alamitos. K. Nguyen Inquired why only one locker room was made available at the Stadium for soccer games, but two were available for football games. Staff will research further. Happy Thanksgiving. Leon There will be a Free Day of Beauty for the seniors of the Santa Ana Senior Center on November 23rd from 9:00am-3:00pm at Sergio’s Salon on Fourth Street. The Dia de los Muertos event was amazing. If you’ve never been, check it out next year. Happy Thanksgiving.
