CASE NAME: ARELLANO, HANS KEVIN
CLASSIFICATION: OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING (FATAL)
TYPE: AUTOPSY
AGENCY: SANTA ANA POLICE DEPARTMENT
On July 31, 2013, at approximately 0900 hours, I attended the post mortem examination
of HANS KEVIN ARELLANO, at the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner Forensic Science Center,
located at 1071 Santa Ana Boulevard, Santa Ana. Prior to the autopsy, I met with all involved
personnel to discuss the circumstances surrounding AYALA’s death. The following personnel
attended the meeting and autopsy:
• ARUNA SINGHANIA Orange County Forensic Pathologist
• ALANA HOESCH Orange County Forensic Assistant
• ARIANA FIGUEROA Orange County Forensic Scientist
• LAURABETH CAMACHO Orange County Forensic Specialist
• DOMINGO CABRERA Santa Ana Police Detective
Following the meeting, the autopsy was conducted by Doctor ARUNA SINGHANIA.
Orange County Forensic Specialist LAURABETH CAMACHO photographed the autopsy, while
Orange County Forensic Scientist ARIANA FIGUEROA collected physical evidence under FR # 13-
50719.
At approximately 0910 hours, as the autopsy began, I observed a white body bag which
was sealed with a Coroner’s body bag tag. ARELLANO’s body was removed from the body bag.
Once the body bag was removed, I observed the following on the body:

• Two (2) coroner toe tags on right big toe, # 13-03106-MR
• Tattoo outside right shoulder “In loving memory of Denise”
• Tattoo of “T” on outside of left pinky finger
• Tattoo of “U” on outside of left ring finger
• Tattoo of “F” on outside of left middle finger
• Tattoo of “F” on outside of left index finger
• Tattoo of “L” on outside of left index finger
• Tattoo of “O” on outside left middle finger
• Tattoo of “V” on outside of left ring finger
• Tattoo of “E” on outside of left pinky finger
• Tattoo of “ARELLANO” on upper right forearm
• (3) three dots behind right ear
• Unknown writings in black ink on right arm
• Unknown writings in black ink on inner right leg
• Unknown writings in black ink on inner left leg
During the autopsy, Doctor SINGHANIA made the following observations in relation to
the gunshot entry wound to the sternum:
• The bullet entered the sternum and struck the aorta. The bullet traveled
through the bronchial midline, traveled through the right lung, traveled outside
the chest ribcage and lodged under the skin on the right side midline
During the autopsy, Doctor SINGHANIA made the following additional observations:
• Recent injection sights were present on ARELLANO’s right arm
• The gunshot entry wound appeared to be fired at a range closer than 5-10 feet
• The body smelled of ethanol
During the autopsy, Doctor SINGHANIA removed the bullet from the body, and
FIGUEROA collected the following evidence:
• (1) one .45 caliber expanded bullet

• Overlay of wound
• Particles from chest, neck and wound
• Bloodstain standard
Following the autopsy, Doctor SINGHANIA concluded the cause of death was
exsanguination, due to a gunshot wound.
