Set Public Hearing For (SPEC NO.11-007) CONTINUED TO FILE NUMBER Y MANAGER RECOMMENDED ACTION Renew the contract with Galls, LLC and Quartermaster for the purchase of body armor vests for a one-year period in an annual amount not to exceed $50,000. DISCUSSION Police Officers are required to wear body armor (ballistic) vests for protection and safety while performing their field duties. These concealable ballistic vests have a warranty and life expectancy of five years. This contract allows the Police Department to keep 300 officers outfitted in a National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Standard 0101.06 Ballistic-Resistant Armor Level II vest at all times; abiding by the warranty standards. Two ballistic vests that meet all specifications and requirements are offered, ensuring availability and comfort. On April 4, 2011 the City Council awarded a contract to Galls, LLC and Quartermaster for a two-year period, with provisions for two one-year renewals. Both vendors have performed satisfactorily during the past contract period and have agreed to renew the contract. Staff recommends the first renewal of the contract at an annual amount of $50,000 based on past usage and staff projections. FISCAL IMPACT Funds are available in the Criminal Activities D.O.J account (no. 02614450 63001).
