The California Penal Code was modified and states that each agency is responsible for the collection and management of DNA samples. On January 1, 2009, per Prop 69, agencies became responsible for collecting DNA samples from all adult felony arrestees. The Department's Forensic Services Section is responsible for the evaluation and collection of all crime scene DNA samples. It is also tasked with the management of DNA cases, including the tracking of all department initiated analysis requests and all related DNA analysis results.
