What is needed is an adopted resolution that helps to protect Santa Ana families and all other affected families from deportation. President Obama is asking Homeland Security to review the guidelines on deportations, it is our hope that this request will assist in making appropriate changes that will help families and not hurt families. Just today, Congress under Republican leadership put forth legislation that would put an end to the DACA policy which is in place. It is a plain and simple attempt to turn their backs against earlier stated principles announced this past January. With the GOP's new ENFORCE Act being pursued in Congress, a clear path towards disenfranchisement is being laid out irresponsible legislators. For these reasons, it is now more important to send a strong message to the Santa Ana community with the approval of this resolution by the Santa Ana City Council. This resolution would be a statement for Congress to not circumvent a possible path towards citizenship for thousands of our young generation of new Americans. The exact language of the proposed resolution may not have been provided to the general public as of Thursday March 13, it is our recommendation that at strong and supportive resolution is needed. It is requested that the resolution adopted by the City Council be strong in the Council's intent to promote stronger communities by protecting families from "destructive and needless immigration deportations" by expanding DACA to more individuals who may eligible. Santa Ana LULAC #147 urges the Mayor and City Council to approve a firm resolution declaring its support of Santa Ana families and their children as stipulated under the March 18 agenda item heading. We are ready to assist in a manner that would emphasize the importance of the expansion of DACA and approval of a meaningful and comprehensive immigration reform at the national legislative level.
