Dear Santa Ana City Councilmembers,

I live /work /shop in Santa Ana. I am very concerned about the City's attempt to profit from
holding immigration detainees in the City Jail. The City is responsible for deciding to hold these
detainees who are mostly not charged with any crime. Santa Ana should not simply sub - contract the Jail
to the Sheriffs who have a 287(8) agreement with ICE nor with a private prison company,-because this
course would be even worse for the detainees. This collusion between Santa Ana police and ICE has
eroded public trust and made our communities less secure. I want local government to be totally
separate from federal immigration enforcement.
This is why I also urge you to adopt an ordinance which prevents SAPD from collaborating with
ICE. Santa Clara County recently passed such an ordinance In Oct. 2011. This ordinance has saved many
families from being forcefully split up by ICE hold requests. We want our families to stay intact and safe.
Many local residents come from mixed families with deep ties to the community in which some
members are undocumented and others are not.
In conclusion, please 1) STOP trying to hold detainees for profit, and 2) PASS an ordinance
stopping SAPD /ICE collusion.
