Subject: Council Meeting for 8/5/2014 Item 85A DISCUSSION OF BICYCLE REGISTRATION AND TICKETING
POLICY (SANTA ANA MUNICIPAL CODE SECTION 10 -196 THROUGH 10 -209) - (Councilmember Martinez)
El Fenix, as a member of the newly formed Santa Ana Active Streets Coalition (SAAS), is excited to see
this item open for discussion.
I would like to request that the City Council consider opening this item up further and schedule a
meeting with SAAS, City Staff /Council and any other interested parties or individual to discuss the
current ordinances regarding bicycle registration and ticketing. The objective of this meeting would be
to understand why the ordinance exists in its present form, discuss the effectiveness and provide time
for adequate research of alternative solutions or modifications. The results of this research will be
presented in follow -up meeting as a formal recommendation.
