Award a contract to Taser International, Inc. for the purchase of Taser electronic control devices
and accessories for a two -year period expiring August 31, 2017, in an amount not to exceed
$163,300, with provision for three, one -year renewals exercisable by the City Manager, subject to
non - substantive changes approved by the City Manager and City Attorney.
DISCUSSION
The Santa Ana Police Department utilizes electronic control devices to gain control over violently
resisting subjects. The new X26P will replace, supplement and upgrade the department's current
inventory of X26E Taser electronic control devices. The X26P incorporates smart technology
details including "charge metering" that measures and delivers the amount of electric charge to
maximize safety and effectiveness and event logs that records every user action such as; safety
activation; trigger duration with times, dates and battery life. The manufacture's recommended
replacement schedule is every five years. This contract will replace up to 150 Tasers and
accessories, as needed, over the next two years based on Police Department needs and age of
equipment.
The notice inviting bids was advertised on July 1, 2015, and offers were solicited. A summary of
the bids and offers received is as follows:

Bids were received and opened on July 14, 2015. The bid received from Taser International, Inc.
is responsive to the specifications and meets the City's requirements.
