First, I do want to start by saying that we were very excited about the news that Super King will replace the former Ralphs space as the new anchor for the South Coast Marketplace and we are very excited to have a local market with fresh produce. As a resident of Canopy Lane, the community of newly constructed homes located directly behind the market, we are looking forward to having a market within walking distance of our home. While I am not contesting the CUP for alcohol sales, I was hoping to use this opportunity to bring up the topic of the aesthetics of the building. I had initial concerns regarding paint color choices when the back side of the building was painted a bright chartreuse green, but since the visibility was limited, this was not much of an issue. However, the front of the store has recently been painted in preparation for the store opening. The color palette for the shopping center generally consists of an olive green and subtle tones of brown. Super King has been painted with a green, but it is more of a Christmas green against a strong cherry red. Additionally, the accent details on the sides of the store have been painted a bright mustard yellow in contrast to the less obtrusive maize color used throughout the rest of the center. For your reference, photos are attached. I will respect whatever decision the Council and Planning Commission ultimately decides on this matter, but as someone who was born and raised in Santa Ana and who chose to proudly purchase a home here to raise my family, I hope that this issue of paint choices be strongly considered as we work together to uphold the property values in our beautiful city.
