Authorize the City Manager and Clerk of the Council to execute an amendment to the agreement
with IDEXX Laboratory, Inc. to provide laboratory services at the Santa Ana Zoo by increasing
the compensation limit by $10,000 to an amount not -to- exceed $35,000 through the remaining
term of the agreement, which is from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2017, subject to non - substantive

DISCUSSION
The Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park is required by the United States Department of Agriculture
and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) to provide veterinary care for the collection of
animals maintained at the Zoo. As part of the preventative and curative medical care program
there is a need to utilize the services of a diagnostic reference laboratory. Common tests
performed by reference laboratories are screens for internal parasites, blood work analysis, PCR
testing, and histopathology. Diagnostic reference laboratories have been utilized by the Santa
Ana Zoo since the 1980s. Over time the ability to provide better care and the cost of services in
the reference laboratory sector have increased. IDEXX Laboratory, Inc. has proven they are a
reliable and accurate reference laboratory, and have served the needs of the Zoo.
STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT
Approval of this item allows the City to meet Goal #2 Youth, Education, Recreation, Objective #2
(Expand youth programming), Strategy E (Partner with outside agencies and secure funding to
rehabilitate zoo exhibits and expand the Santa Ana Zoo).
