ECOMMENT - Support Santa Ana as a Sanctuary City

Mayor and City Council,
The following has been received in support of tonight's agenda item. It has been entered into the record.

Subject: Santa Ana as a Sanctuary City
I am not able to come to the Council Meeting tonight.
I support a resolution making Santa Ana a Sanctuary City. I would also support an ordinance to that effect.
I agree that immigration has been a cornerstone of Santa Ana. The enforcement of Federal Immigration policies
and laws should be handled and funded by the Federal Government. I don't think it is a good use of Santa Ana
resources to do that job.
Please share my thoughts with the Mayor, Council Members, the City Manager and City Attorney.
Thank you and best wishes for a very happy holiday.
Sincerely,
bobikeenan

To Mayor Pulido and Council Members:
I read this morning that you are deciding whether to make Santa Ana a "sanctuary" city and as a resident I am
writing to tell you that I am opposed to this. I respectfully request that you do not do anything to either risk
our federal funding or act to remove the consequences of illegal immigration into our city, state and country.
I firmly support legal immigration and diversity in our community, and would applaud legal methods of making
our city an example by assisting in this process instead of us being part of the ongoing problem. Our country
seems to be full of elected officials deciding to ignore laws currently in place - as a private citizen I certainly do
not expect to be able to live without paying tax, being covered by insurance, or even leave my house without
identification.
As a 55 -year-old native Californian, Orange County resident since 1962 and a Santa Ana homeowner and
resident since 2005, 1 appreciate your consideration of my request. You may reach me by return email or my
cell number below.
Thank you,
Cindy Cuppy

To the Santa Ana city council,
Instead of taking time to create a "toothless' resolution creating another sanctuary city in the state of California, PLEASE
concentrate on the business of the city, such as:
crime prevention, gang problems, homelessness, street repair, transportation, job creation, dying trees, water
resources, helping the elderly, etc. While I believe law abiding, hard working persons who entered the United States
illegally should have a reasonable path to citizenship, do not put the city of Santa Ana in the crosshairs of the upcoming
Trump administration. For once, I'd like to hear the city council talk about helping tax payers, business owners, and
homeowners in the city.
Thank you,
Bruce Hall

Tonights Council Meeting 12/6/16
I am writing to comment on several of your agenda items this evening.
1. Councilman Sarmiento's request to provide a $500 stipend to Central Cultural de Mexico. Why would we be
giving this organization money when it is an open secret that they are behind the "FTP" movement?? These are
the folks who are responsible for all citizens to be "wanded and searched" before our council meetings. This
should be a no vote.
2. A request to vote on a resolution to make our city a Sanctuary City ? And put $123MM of Federal funding at
risk, it immediately places a bulls eye on the Golden City. This is beyond irresponsible ......... please vote N0.
3. Item 85-A, a request to hold a special election to amend the Charter to revert to Chicago style politics with
Ward elections? And I'll just bet there will be a request to extend the term limits for the Council. This should
be another NO vote.
Folks are wondering what is in the water being served on the dial as some strange things are being considered. Thanks
for your indulgence.

Subject: Sanctuary City
As a resident of Orange County, I want to applaud the actions of the City Council in declaring Santa Ana to be a sanctuary
city. I am concerned, however, that ending the city's relationship with ICE will also close the protected holding area for Bi-
sexual, gay, and transgendered persons, putting them at risk. I would like to urge the City Council to carefully consider the
matter. Thank you, Deborah Silverstein

Would you please pass these thoughts along to the Mayor, Council, City Manager and City Attorney:
I am very happy and supportive that the Council passed a resolution declaring Santa Ana as a sanctuary city. I
hope they will proceed with formulating and passing an ordinance to that effect.
There is one thing that concerns me and that is the City's contract with ICE to house prisoners. Those people
need to be housed somewhere and it does bring some money into the City. My main concern is that Santa Ana
has a designated unit to house LGBT inmates and I worry about what will happen to them if they aren't held in
our jail.
Happy Holidays to all and thank you.
Sincerely,
bobi keenan

Re: Sanctuary City

CITY OF 14N,4
We do not live in your city but we do shop and eat there several times a
month. Since you decided at your council meeting on December 6, 2016,
that you will be a "sanctuary city" and will ignore our laws we will no
longer be spending money in your city. To protect people who are not
legally residing in the United States by purposely ignoring our laws is
wrong. We realize that these are not all "bad" people but they still have
come here illegally and shouldn't be given shelter or benefits. There are
criminals included among them who should be treated as criminals not
protected because you want to make a statement.
We lived in Santa Ana when we were first married, so Santa Ana has had a
special place in our heart but we will no longer spend money in your city.
