Subject: Agenda item 75A -Ordinance to regulate mobile food vending vehicles
Categories: RFCA, Correspondence, CMO Approved
Good afternoon,
My name is Yuriana Velasco, and I reside at 1040 W. Macarthur Blvd. #81, Santa Ana. I am writing to you, city
officials, regarding the ordinance to regulate mobile food vending vehicles.
I do not believe restricting vending within 500 feet of a school, park, community center or public playground is
a benefit to our city. I DO NOT AGREE with the ordinance as a whole and as a homeowner and resident of the
City of Santa Ana I urge city officials to look into voting NO. This ordinance will only criminalize vendors that
are working towards surviving day to day. With my tax money, the city should be developing ways to support
those vendors into developing a small-business plan, and not criminalize them.
Please vote NO.

I'm writing to express my total disdain to the proposed ordinance to prohibit mobile food vending vehicles as
written. This ordinance would dis proportionally impact communities of color in the city in terms of eliminating
their source of income and further criminalizing them in favor of the prison industrial complex. In a time where
our communities are under constant and relentless attack by those in power at the federal government it is
imperative that action is taken by local jurisdictions to protect these communities from punitive actions that
would place them at risk of proposed federal actions such as mass deportation of those with "criminal records."
The proposed ordinance would only allow for increased criminalization of those communities which would be
the most affected by such proposed federal actions. Santa Ana should follow the example of the City of Los
Angeles, who has chosen to protect its residents by taking steps to legalize street vending. In the city of Santa
Ana the step should be to stop this ordinance to prevent the criminalizing those whom up to now have been
protected.
Sincerely,
Carlos Hernandez

Dear Councilmembers,
It has come to my attention that the Santa Ana City Council will be holding a public hearing to
regulate mobile food vending vehicles. This issue is very dear to me, not only because I'm a resident
of Santa Ana but because I personally understand, as a past swapmeet vendor, how these types of
jobs are an essential part of the economic life of many households. The policies being introduced,
not only push vending into certain areas, but also drive them to be unsuccessful in these areas.
These types of jobs, not only support a local economy, by bringing money into the city and not away,
but enhance the quality of life of the City. So, I urge the city to really rethink and think smart about
food vending vehicles. Where is the data on how no flashing neon or electronic displays distract
drivers? Where the historic neon signs of the 1950s drive-in distracting? Or, are these policies
changes, border racist, microagressions toward a "particular type of vending community"?
I'm also very skeptical of the community input received by comm -link. I urge that the city council do its
own survey/assessment of mobile food vending vehicles. The city council should draw up innovative
solutions — solutions that seek not to distinguish but to protect and improve the subsector and
strengthening their ability to succeed in Santa Ana's food market. Instead of restricting them how
about providing them the opportunity to formalize parking spaces, the establishment of a Human
Relations Commission so the city can investigate the negative impact of food vendors within a
neighborhood, or other nuisances, and the expansion of public restrooms and waste containers (as a
way to minimize those public nuisances that stem from the lack of these services). These are a few
suggestions.
Once again, I hope you make the right decision and vote NO on the new mandates. And, direct
the city to do some real research concerning food vending vehicles and creating mandates that do
not criminalize certain communities.
Sincerely,
Rafael Solorzano

Hi
I want to comment on the lunch truck ordinance. I welcome guidelines which restrict parking and selling. I support
restrictions on residential parking. Our city has dense areas. These areas suffer from a lack of parking which result in
residence having to park blocks away from their home. Lunch trucks should not be taking up precious street parking.
With that being said I do not support the criminalization of hard working people. People who are legally participating in
free enterprise. We should support hard working people but also enforce guidelines. Please do not criminalize hard
working people.

Subject: Food Truck Vendor Ordinance does not go far enough
Categories: Correspondence
Dear Council Members,
The Food Truck Vendor Ordinance does not go far enough. Many of these vendor food trucks take up the space of two
cars in overcrowded neighborhoods where parking spaces are already scarce. Some of these vendors are known to stay
in the same spot from morning until evening and when they leave they park a large SUV or van to hold their space for
the next day. Can you imagine walking out your front door or looking out your window day after day and your only view
is of a big food vendor truck? I doubt the residents of Floral Park would ever see a food vendor truck in their
neighborhood.
Sincerely,
Lisa Tran
