In response to Tinajero's remarks, Serrano said Rojas chose to leave on his own. "The fact is Rojas has applied far employment at other cities, has chosen to leave and left at his own accord. The [police union] represents its members and has no authority on who is the chief, " Serrano wrote in an email to Voice of OC. "We thank Mr. Rojas for his years of service. Now we need a Chief with a problem solving and community oriented policing strategy to address the spike in gang shootings and morale at the Santa Ana Police Department. " I'm having difficulty figuring out what the agenda is for Monday evening's Special closed session of the City Council. It seems to imply that it is to discuss the employment status and /or performance of the Acting City Manager. But the media reports that it is to discuss who will be the interim Police Chief. I guess it really doesn't matter what the subject matter is for the closed meeting, since Gerry Serrano is now in complete charge of our City. I assume he will be attending the closed meeting and you all will just nod your head in agreement as he speaks. He is in control of all things Santa Ana (as anyone who heads the Police Union in a Police State should be) including the entire City Budget. He can quickly decide who will be our new City Manager and Police Chief and can set the salary right there during the meeting. You can all vote unanimously and the meeting should be over in a matter of minutes! Should be easy. I hope that those who really care about the morale of the residents of Santa Ana (and not just the supposed poor morale of 300 officers, most of whom don't even live in Santa Ana) and those who really care about what's best for all of the residents, will prevail and a nationwide search for the best candidates for City Manager and Police Chief, will commence immediately. 1 I'm fearful that we may have already had two of the best in those positions and because they've been run out of town on a rail, it will be difficult to get anyone qualified to take those jobs. And if we hear one more Councilmember or Police Union President who says Cavazos and Rojas left on their own accord, a bunch of us are all going to collectively throw -up! Sincerely, Dave Hoen FA
