As a Washington Square resident of 10 years, I know how seriously the residents in our neighborhood take historic preservation. My wife and I are included; we have also taken advantage of the Mills Act I’ve had the opportunity to speak with our new neighbor Mike about his home at 919 North Lowell Street. He shares our strong desire to preserve the charm and the historic nature of Washington Square. Protecting another home under the Mills Act will only help our endeavor. As such, I urge you to approve his application. Thank you for your consideration. Michael Mello Proud Washington Square resident From:Soto, Ricardo To:bobi keenan Cc:Bernal, Sarah Subject:RE: 919 N. Lowell - Mills Act Application & Application to be added to Santa Ana Historic Register Dear Mr. Soto, I am responding to the notice I received in the mail about the Public Hearing on March 22 to consider the application for the property at 919 N. Lowell Street to be granted a Mills Act contract and to be placed on the Santa Ana Register of Historic Places. I am not able to attend that meeting, but I want to express my views about this issue. As a resident of Santa Ana and the neighborhood of Washington Square where this property is located, I fully and heartily support granting these applications! As a homeowner here my, and my neighbor's, property values are increased by the preservation of other homes in my neighborhood...and so is our quality of life. It makes it an attractive place to live and it attracts people who share these values of preserving the historic character of neighborhoods in our City. I feel strongly that we need to support preserving and maintaining the buildings in Santa Ana, especially the homes, that have a historic character. Indeed, I think they are a treasure for our City. In the 26 years that I have lived here, I have seen many beautiful, historic homes and bulidings fall to the wrecking ball and I think that our City is poorer because of it. I have also watched, with some horror, as property owners have modified their homes and buildings with changes in design and use of cheap materials, obliterating their historic character, without regard to the impact on neighbors or neighborhoods. It bothers me. It makes me sad. Anything we can do, to at least slow, if not stop, this travesty which impoverishes our Santa Ana environment, should be done. Please grant the applications this property owner has submitted.
