The existing system
is out of commission and no longer serviceable by the manufacturer. To
minimize any potential loss of Library material, staff recommends that a
new detection system be purchased. The proposed 3M Security Detection
System is highly recommended because of its reliability and compatibility
with the Library's automation system and hardware.

In addition, as the circulation at the Main Library is projected to
increase due to a reduction in personnel, the closure of the McFadden
Library Learning Center, and the expansion of business hours at the Main
Library, staff recommends the purchase of an automated self-check unit to
allow patron's to check-out, renew, and check-in materials without direct
staff support. The self-check unit will result in improved productivity
and enhanced customer service.

.

25E-1
