<br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />~ITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />'APRIL 19,2004 <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />TITLE: <br />CONTRACT AMENDMENT FOR JAIL <br />INMATE PHONE SERVICES <br /> <br />0 As Recommended <br />0 As Amended <br />0 Ordinance on 1" Reading <br />0 Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />0 Implementing Resolution <br />0 Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />~:!'. <br /> <br />adrZ <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and the <br />Clerk of the Council to execute an amended agreement with sac Services <br />(Formerly known as Pacific Bell Phone Service) to provide the equipment, <br />installation, service and maintenance for the Police Department's inmate <br />.hone system. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />In February 1999, the City Council approved a Five-year agreement with sac <br />Services to provide phone services to all jail inmates required under the <br />Board of Correction Standards set by California Penal Code section 4025. <br />Under the terms of this amendment sac will receive a three-year agreement <br />extension, which includes the following terms. The Police Department will <br />increase its commission rate from 41 percent (local calls) and 43 percent <br />(long distance) to 50 percent for both. This amendment will increase <br />revenues by approximately $4,000 per month. sac Services will provide a <br />new state of the art inmate phone system. Funds generated will continue to <br />,be used to provide all of the programming and educational services <br />provided by the jail to its inmates. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br /> <br />There is no fiscal impact associated with this. action. <br /> <br />c1W~ <br /> <br />.paul M.
