<br />\.". <br /> <br />SANTA ANA CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE <br />PUBLIC SAFETY <br />Minutes of Meeting <br />January 10, 2005 <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />The meeting was convened at 6:25 p.m. in City Hall, 20 Civic Center Plaza, 8th <br />Floor, Room 831, Santa Ana, California. <br /> <br />ATTENDANCE <br />Councilmembers present: Councilmembers Alberta Christy, Claudia Alvarez. <br /> <br />Staff present: Assistant City Attorney Paula Coleman, Police Chief Paul Walters, <br />Fire Chief Phil Garcia, Fire Marshal Lori Smith, Police Lieutenant Bill Tegeler and <br />Deputy City Attorney Mike Vigliotta <br /> <br />Public present: Ray and Evangeline Gawronski <br /> <br />SUMMARY OF DISCUSSIONS <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />\.... <br /> <br />Approved Minutes of the November 8, 2004 meeting. <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />FIREWORKS INFORMATION <br /> <br />Fire Chief Garcia and Fire Marshal Smith presented the draft <br />Ordinance regarding changes that would impose an 80 percent <br />residency requirement on fireworks booth applicants. After <br />discussion, the committee recommended that the proposed <br />Ordinance be presented to the City Council at a future meeting. <br /> <br />Question from Evangeline Gawronski: What is being done with <br />illegal fireworks? Staff commented on how Police and Fire <br />personnel are deployed on July 4 to investigate and physically <br />confiscate illegal fireworks. <br /> <br />3. <br /> <br />IMPACT OF PROPOSITION 69 (DNA) <br /> <br />\.". <br /> <br />Chief Walters related to the Committee that the Orange County <br />Chiefs of Police and Sheriff's Association will be meeting on this <br />issue to develop a protocol that all Orange County cities will follow. <br />This item will be placed on the Public Safety Agenda again at a <br />future time. <br />
