Award a contract to GovConnection for the purchase of data storage in an amount not to
exceed $32,000.
DISCUSSION
The Information Services Division (ISD) maintains servers and data storage in both the City Ha1i
and the Police Department data centers. ISD seeks to add three virtualization servers in the City
Hall center and another at the Police Department center. Additionally, to accommodate
increased crime analysis, it is necessary to increase data storage capacity in the Police
Department center.
The new servers will support the growth in processing requirements by replacing several older
servers with more powerful virtualization servers. Utilizing virtualization is a more efficient
solution than purchasing individual servers for each application, resulting in initial cost savings at
time of purchase, and ongoing, as monthly energy consumption is reduced. In the case of the
Police Department, this increased process capability is necessary to sustain new crime analysis-
related applications. Funding for both the Police Department server and the increased data
storage is provided by the 2002 Cops Technology Grant.
22D-1
