RESOLUTION NO. 2012-015 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA AUTHORIZING THE <br />SUBMISSION OF PROJECTS FOR FUNDING <br />UNDER THE BICYCLE TRANSPORTATION ACCOUNT <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines and <br />declares as follows: <br />A. The California Department of Transportation is responsible for administering <br />the Bicycle Transportation Account (BTA) which provides state funds for city <br />and county projects to improve safety and convenience for bicycle <br />commuters. <br />B. To be eligible for BTA funding, the City of Santa Ana is required to adopt a <br />bicycle transportation plan that meets the requirements of the California <br />Transportation Act (California Streets and Highways Code Section 891.2) <br />and is approved by the regional transportation authority. <br />C. On May 22, 2009, the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) <br />adopted its OCTA Commuter Bikeways Strategic Plan (CBSP) which is <br />consistent with the Santa Ana bicycle transportation plan. <br />D. Projects funded through the Bicycle Transportation Account, require that the <br />applicant furnish funding for ten percent (10%) of the total cost of <br />constructing the proposed bikeways and related facilities. <br />Section 2. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana authorizes the City Manager and/or <br />the Executive Director of the Public Works Agency to submit an application for Bicycle <br />Transportation Account funding for two bicycle facilities projects including: <br />Newhope Avenue bike lane from Westminster Avenue to McFadden Avenue <br />Chestnut Avenue from Standard Avenue to Grand Avenue <br />Section 3. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana certifies that, if selected, the City <br />will provide the required ten percent matching funds, and will have sufficient funds to <br />operate and maintain the project(s). <br />Resolution 2012-015 <br />Page 1 of 2
