Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />City Manager and the Clerk of the Council to <br />County Sheriffs Department for helicopter <br />by the City Manager and City Attorney in the <br />In October 1994, the City of Santa Ana began participating in the Airborne Law Enforcement Services <br />(ABLE) program. ABLE was a regional helicopter program, which combined resources from the City of <br />Costa Mesa, the City of Newport Beach and the City of Santa Ana. On July 1, 2011, the ABLE program <br />was discontinued and the City began contracting with the Sheriffs Department for this service. On June <br />4, 2012 the City Council approved a two-year agreement with the Sheriffs Department for the provision <br />of helicopter services, subject to a second year increase that is based on the County's annual operating <br />costs an and the average time per call. <br />Airborne Law Enforcement Services allow the Police Department to provide a rapid enhanced response <br />to incidents posing the greatest risk to the public, including robberies, burglaries, assaults, and fleeing <br />felons. This one-year amendment will modify the annual contract amount from $351,842 to $360,474 <br />and cover the period of July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014.This agreement will be funded by asset <br />forfeiture funds and will comply with applicable regulations.
