PLANNING COMMISSION ACTION On March 10, 2014, the Planning Commission adopted a resolution approving Conditional Use Permit No. 2014 -05 as conditioned and Variance No. 2014 -01 by a vote of 6:0 (Gartner absent) to allow the expansion of an existing neighborhood community center and a reduction in the required parking at the Boys and Girls Club located at 950 West Highland Street in the Multiple - Family Residential (R3) zoning district. The Planning Commission made no changes to the recommended conditions of approval outlined in the attached staff report (Exhibit A). DISCUSSION The Boys and Girls Club of Santa Ana proposes to remodel and expand an existing neighborhood and community center at 950 West Highland Street. The remodel will include a new game room, learning center, career development area and teen center. The applicant also proposes to construct a new 1,836 square foot garage /maintenance structure on a newly acquired vacant parcel immediately east of the existing Club. The approval of the conditional use permit and variance would allow the facility to continue to provide needed services to current and future community residents. 31A-1
