EXEMPT FROM FEES PURSUANT Ls 9.14.17 <br />TO GOVERNMENT CODE § 27383 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2017-10 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE HISTORIC RESOURCES <br />COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA APPROVING <br />HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMISSION APPLICATION <br />NO. 2017-17 TO PLACE THE PROPERTY LOCATED AT <br />888 NORTH MAIN STREET, SANTA ANA, ON THE <br />HISTORICAL REGISTER AND APPROVING HISTORIC <br />REGISTER CATEGORIZATION NO. 2017-16 PLACING <br />SAID PROPERTY WITHIN THE LANDMARK CATEGORY <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. The Historic Resources Commission of the City of Santa Ana <br />hereby finds, determines and declares as follows: <br />A. On September 14, 2017 the Historic Resources Commission held a duly <br />noticed public hearing for the placement on the Santa Ana Register of <br />Historical Properties (Historic Resources Commission Application No. <br />2017-17) and categorization (Historic Resources Commission <br />Categorization No. 2017-16) of the Security Bank Building located at 888 <br />North Main Street Santa Ana. <br />B. The Security Bank Building has distinctive architectural features of the <br />New Formalism style, and was built in 1965 by Carter Company. <br />C. This property qualifies for listing on the Santa Ana Register of Historical <br />Properties and is eligible for categorization as Landmark. The Security <br />Bank Building qualifies for listing in the Santa Ana Register of Historical <br />Properties under Criterion 4 for its embodiment of the post -World War II <br />evolution of Santa Ana as the financial headquarters of Orange County <br />and its historical association with a historical Southern California financial <br />institution, Security Bank. It also qualifies for listing in the Santa Ana <br />Register of Historical Properties under Criterion 1, for its exemplification of <br />the distinguishing characteristics of the New Formalism style of <br />architecture and under Criterion 2 as the work in Santa Ana of a notable <br />architect, Welton Becket and Associates, whose work influenced <br />architectural development. Additionally, the building has been categorized <br />as "Landmark" because "it has an historical/cultural significance to the <br />city" for its role in the historical development of Santa Ana as a financial <br />center and its association with Security Bank and because "it has a unique <br />architectural significance" as an example of the New Formalism style of <br />architecture designed by master architect Welton Becket and Associates. <br />Resolution No. 2017-10 <br />Page 1 of 5 <br />
