FREE RECORDING PURSUANT TO <br />GOVERNMENT CODE § 27383 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2017-19 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE HISTORIC RESOURCES <br />COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA APPROVING <br />HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMISSION APPLICATION <br />NO. 2017-23 TO PLACE THE PROPERTY LOCATED AT <br />2424 NORTH RIVERSIDE DRIVE, SANTA ANA, ON THE <br />HISTORICAL REGISTER AND APPROVING HISTORIC <br />REGISTER CATEGORIZATION NO. 2017-22 PLACING <br />SAID PROPERTY WITHIN THE KEY CATEGORY <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. The Historic Resources Commission of the City of Santa Ana <br />hereby finds, determines and declares as follows: <br />A. On October 5, 2017 the Historic Resources Commission held a duly <br />noticed public hearing for the placement on the Santa Ana Register of <br />Historical Properties (Historic Resources Commission Application No. <br />2017-23) and categorization (Historic Resources Commission <br />Categorization No. 2017-22) of the K. H. Sutherland House located at <br />2424 North Riverside Drive, Santa Ana. <br />B. The K. H. Sutherland House has distinctive architectural features of the <br />French Eclectic style, and was built in 1930. <br />C. This home qualifies for listing on the Santa Ana Register of Historical <br />Properties and is eligible for categorization as Key. As a contributor to the <br />North Broadway Park Historic District, which has been determined eligible <br />for listing in the National Register of Historic Places, the K. H. Sutherland <br />House has been listed in the California Register of Historical Resources. <br />The property also qualifies for listing on the Santa Ana Register of <br />Historical Properties under Criterion 1 for its exemplification of the <br />distinguishing characteristics of the French Eclectic style, and under <br />Criterion 4.b for its association with K.H. Sutherland, an important doctor <br />in Santa Ana history. Additionally, the house has been categorized as <br />"Key" because it "has a distinctive architectural style and quality," and "is <br />associated with a significant person... in the city." Character -defining <br />features of the K. H. Sutherland House that should be preserved include, <br />but may not be limited to, materials and finishes: original windows where <br />extant; pattern in the stucco walls; roof shape and materials; arched <br />entryway opening; and brick chimney. Typical features of the French <br />Eclectic style illustrated by the house include its asymmetrical <br />composition; patterned stucco walls; pointed door; multi -paned casement <br />windows; and wood shingle roof. <br />Resolution No. 2017-19 <br />Page 1 of 4 <br />
