Appendix B - Laboratory Testing
2001 E. Dyer Road
Santa Ana, California
GDC Project No. LA-1248A
Page B-3
B.7 One-Dimensional Consolidation
The consolidation characteristics of selected soil samples under incremental loading were
evaluated by performing one-dimensional consolidation tests. These tests use a floating
ring consolidometer and a dead weight system in accordance with ASTM D 2435. Time rate
readings were also recorded at selected loads.
B.8 Expansion Index Test
The expansion potential of the site soils was estimated using the Expansion Index Test in
accordance with ASTM D 4829 and the test result is presented in Table B-1.
B.9 Soil Corrosivity
Tests were performed to evaluate corrosion potential of selected soil samples on concrete
and ferrous metals. Corrosivity testing included minimum electrical resistivity and soil pH
(CTM 643), water-soluble chlorides (ASTM D 512), and water-soluble sulfates (ASTM D 516).
The test results are presented in Table B-1.
B.10 Compaction Test
The laboratory maximum dry density and optimum water content for compacted soils were
determined in accordance with ASTM D 1557.
B.11 R-Value
Resistance R-Value tests were performed by stabilometer method on selected bulk samples
of the subgrade soils. The tests were conducted in general accordance with CTM 301. R-
Value tests are identified in Table B-1.
B.12 List of Attached Table and Figures
The following table and figures are attached:
List of Table
Table B-1 Summary of Laboratory Test Results
GROUP DELTA
