<br />PHOTOVOLTAIC GENERAL NOTES
<br />PHOTOVOLTAIC MODULES AND PANEL SYSTEMS INSTALLED ON OR INTEGRAL WITH
<br />BUILDINGS, OR TO BE FREESTANDING (NOT ATTACHED TO BUILDINGS) SHALL BE
<br />TESTED, LISTED, AND IDENTIFIED WITH A FIRE CLASSIFICATION (CLASS C MINIMUM) IN
<br />ACCORDANCE WITH UL1703. WHERE CLASS A OR B ROOFING IS REQUIRED, THE PV
<br />SOLAR SYSTEM (PV PANEL & RACK) SHALL HAVE THE SAME CLASS/TYPE RATING OR
<br />BETTER.
<br />· ALL MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT, INSTALLATION AND WORK PERFORMED SHALL BE IN
<br />ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOLLOWING CODES:
<br />- 2022 CBC / 2021 IBC
<br />- 2022 CRC / 2021 IRC
<br />- 2022 CEC / 2020 NEC
<br />- 2022 CMC / 2021 IMC
<br />- 2022 CPC / 2021 IPC

<br />- 2022 BUILDING ENERGY EFFICIENCY STANDARDS
<br />· ALL EQUIPMENT SHALL BE LISTED AND LABELED BY A RECOGNIZED ELECTRICAL
<br />TESTING LABORATORY AND L.A. TEST LAB. EQUIPMENT INSTALLED SHALL BE PER
<br />ITS LISTING REQUIREMENTS AND THE MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS. NEC
<br />110.2, 110.3, 690.4(B), 690.12(D).
<br />· ALL OUTDOOR EQUIPMENT SHALL BE NEMA 3R RATED, INCLUDING ALL ROOF
<br />MOUNTED TRANSITION BOXES AND SWITCHES.
<br />· ALL EQUIPMENT SHALL BE PROPERLY GROUNDED AND BONDED IN ACCORDANCE
<br />WITH NEC ARTICLE 250.
<br />· PV SYSTEM DC CIRCUIT AND INVERTER OUTPUT CONDUCTORS AND EQUIPMENT
<br />SHALL BE PROTECTED AGAINST OVERCURRENT. CIRCUITS SIZED IN ACCORDANCE
<br />WITH 690.8(A)(2) ARE REQUIRED TO BE PROTECTED AGAINST OVERCURRENT
<br />PROTECTIVE DEVICES. EACH CIRCUIT SHALL BE PROTECTED FROM
<br />OVERCURRENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH 690.9(A)(1), (A)(2), OR (A)(3). [NEC 690.9(A)]
<br />· DISCONNECTING MEANS OF THE PV SYSTEM (INCLUDING RAPID SHUTDOWN
<br />INITIATION) SHALL BE LOCATED IN A READILY ACCESSIBLE LOCATION WITHIN THE
<br />EQUIPMENT, WITHIN SIGHT OF THE EQUIPMENT, OR REMOTELY WHERE THE
<br />EQUIPMENT DISCONNECTING MEANS. [NEC 690.13(A), 690.15]
<br />· RAPID SHUTDOWN EQUIPMENT TO COMPLY WITH NEC 690.12.
<br />· ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM DISCONNECTING MEANS SHALL BE PROVIDED FOR ALL
<br />UNGROUNDED CONDUCTORS AND SHALL BE READILY ACCESSIBLE AND WITHIN
<br />LINE OF SIGHT; WHERE PARTITIONED, AN ADDITIONAL DISCONNECT SHALL BE
<br />PROVIDED WITHIN SIGHT OF THE ESS COMPONENT. OVERCURRENT PROTECTION
<br />SHALL BE PROVIDED. [706.15, 706.31]
<br />· UPON LOSS OF PRIMARY SOURCE, THE OUTPUT OF ELECTRIC POWER
<br />PRODUCTION EQUIPMENT SHALL BE AUTOMATICALLY DISCONNECTED FROM ALL
<br />UNGROUNDED CONDUCTORS OF THE INTERCONNECTED SYSTEMS. THE ELECTRIC
<br />POWER PRODUCTION EQUIPMENT SHALL NOT BE RECONNCETED UNTIL ALL
<br />PHASES OF THE PRIMARY SOURCE IS RESTORED. [NEC 705.40]
<br />· ALL CONDUCTORS IN EXPOSED OUTDOOR LOCATIONS SHALL BE LISTED AND
<br />IDENTIFIED FOR USE IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT AND FOR THE APPLICATION. [NEC
<br />690.31(C) THROUGH (F), 310.10(D)]
<br />· EXPOSED CONDUCTORS WITHIN THE PV ARRAY SHALL BE PV WIRE/CABLE, OR
<br />TYPE USE-2, OR TYPE RHW-2 (UL 4703 & 854 LISTED) [NEC 690.31(C)(1)]
<br />· FINE-STRANDED CABLE CONNECTIONS MUST BE MADE IN LUGS AND TERMINALS
<br />TO ENSURE A THOROUGHLY GOOD CONNECTION WITHOUT DAMAGING THE
<br />CONDUCTORS. [NEC 110.14(A)]
<br />· FLEXIBLE, FINE-STRANDED CABLES SHALL BE TERMINATED ONLY WITH
<br />TERMINALS, LUGS, DEVICES, OR CONNECTORS THAT ARE IDENTIFIED AND LISTED
<br />FOR SUCH USE. [NEC 690.31(C)(5), 110.14]
<br />· ALL PV CIRCUIT CONDUCTORS SHALL BE MARKED ON EACH END AND GROUPED
<br />FOR UNIQUE IDENTIFICATION. [NEC 690.31(B)]
<br />· ALL EXTERIOR CONDUIT, FITTINGS, AND BOXES SHALL BE RAIN TIGHT AND
<br />APPROVED FOR USE IN WET LOCATIONS. (NEC 314.15)
<br />· ALL GROUNDED, (NEUTRAL), CONDUCTORS' INSULATION SHALL BE SOLID WHITE,
<br />GRAY, OR WITH 3-WHITE STRIPES. [NEC 200.6, 200.7, 400.22]; ALL GROUNDING
<br />CONDUCTORS SHALL BE OF BARE WIRE WITHOUT COVERING, OR WITH
<br />INSULATION OF GREEN OR GREEN WITH YELLOW STRIPES, NEC 250.119 & 400.23.
<br />THE COLOR OF UNGROUNDED CONDUCTORS SHALL BE OTHER THAN FOR
<br />GROUNDED, (NEUTRAL), AND GROUNDING CONDUCTORS. [NEC 310.110(C)]
<br />· MAXIMUM CONDUCTOR LENGTH BETWEEN SUPPLY SIDE CONNECTION AND
<br />OVERCURRENT PROTECTION IS 10FT IN DWELLING UNITS AND 16.5FT IN OTHER
<br />THAN DWELLING UNITS FROM THE POINT OF CONNECTION TO THE SERVICE.

<br />INTERCONNECTIONS OPERATING IN PARALLEL WITH A PRIMARY POWER SOURCE

<br />· LABELS SHALL BE REFLECTIVE, AND ALL LETTERS SHALL BE CAPITALIZED AND

<br />· IDENTIFICATION OF POWER SOURCE RAPID SHUTDOWN AND LABELING SHALL BE IN

<br />· SMOKE ALARMS AND CARBON MONOXIDE ALARMS ARE REQUIRED TO BE
<br />RETROFITTED ONTO THE EXISTING DWELLING AS PER THE 2019 CRC. THESE SMOKE
<br />ALARMS ARE REQUIRED TO BE IN ALL BEDROOMS, OUTSIDE EACH BEDROOM, AND
<br />AT LEAST ONE ON EACH FLOOR OF THE HOUSE. CARBON MONOXIDE ALARMS ARE
<br />REQUIRED TO BE RETROFITTED OUTSIDE EACH BEDROOM AND AT LEAST ONE ON
<br />EACH FLOOR OF THE HOUSE. (CRC 314,315)
<br />· SMOKE ALARMS AND CARBON MONOXIDE ALARMS ARE REQUIRED PER CRC
<br />SECTIONS 314 AND 315 TO BE VERIFIED AND INSPECTED BY THE INSPECTOR IN THE
<br />FIELD.
<br />· A LADDER MUST BE PROVIDED FOR INSPECTIONS IN ACCORDANCE WITH Cal-OSHA
<br />REGULATIONS, SECURED AND EXTENDING 3-FT ABOVE THE ROOF.
<br />· ALL OF THE REQUIRED MARKINGS, SIGNS, AND LABELS MUST BE INSTALLED ON ALL
<br />EQUIPMENT PRIOR TO ANY INSPECTIONS.
