Algonquin Road • Arlington Heights • Illinois • 60005 <br /> intertek.com/building <br /> <br />PCA-101 <br />Version: 28 December 2021 SFT-BC-CCRR-OP-19a Code Compliance Research Report <br /> <br />3.4 System components: Components for installation are <br />provided by GAF Energy LLC and include the components <br />shown in Figure 2. <br /> <br />4.0 PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS <br /> <br />4.1 Material Standards: The Timberline Solar BIPV modules <br />are listed by Intertek as complying with UL 7103, and both <br />UL 61730-1 and 61730-2 in accordance with IBC Sections <br />1507.16.6 and 1507.17.5 and IRC Sections R905.16.4 and <br />R905.17.5. <br /> <br />4.2 Wind Resistance: When installed in accordance with <br />this report, the Timberline Solar BIPV Roofing System has <br />demonstrated a Class F classification when tested in <br />accordance with ASTM D3161 and complies with the <br />requirements of TAS 107. <br /> <br />4.3 Wind-driven Rain: When installed in accordance with <br />this report, the Timberline Solar BIPV Roofing System has <br />demonstrated compliance with TAS 100. <br /> <br />4.4 Roof Classification: When installed in accordance with <br />this report, the Timberline Solar BIPV Roofing System has <br />demonstrated a Class A fire classification when tested in <br />accordance with ASTM E108 (UL 790). <br /> <br />4.5 Impact Resistance: The BIPV modules have <br />demonstrated a Class 1 rating when tested in accordance <br />with UL 2218. Note, this is supplemental information; the <br />building codes do not require impact resistance for roofing <br />installed at slopes greater than 2:12. <br /> <br />4.6 Photovoltaic Hazard Control: The Timberline Solar <br />BIPV Roofing System, in combination with the Delta <br />Electronics components described below, are listed by <br />Intertek for compliance with UL 3741, Photovoltaic Hazard <br />Control, in accordance with NEC Article 690.12(B)(2)(1). The <br />system is used where a rapid shutdown PV array is required. <br /> <br />The system is used with the following components: <br />• Delta Electronics Mid Circuit Interrupters <br />• Delta Electronics Rapid Shutdown System <br />• Delta Electronics M series inverters M4-TL-US, M5-TL-US, <br />M6-TL-US, M8-TL-US, M10-4-TL-US. <br /> <br /> <br />5.0 INSTALLATION <br /> <br />5.1 General: <br /> <br />The Timberline Solar BIPV Roofing System must be installed <br />in accordance with the manufacturer’s published <br />installation instructions, the applicable Code, and this <br />Research Report. A copy of the manufacturer’s instructions <br />must be available on the jobsite during installation. <br /> <br />5.2 Application: <br /> <br />The Timberline Solar modules must be installed over an <br />underlayment complying with IBC Section 1507.1.1 or IRC <br />Section R905.1.1. on minimum 15/32-inch plywood or 7/16- <br />inch OSB roof decks. Minimum slope is 2:12; maximum slope <br />is not limited. Application of the underlayment must be in <br />accordance with IBC Section 1507.17.4 and IRC Sections <br />R905.1.1 and R905.1.2. <br /> <br />Asphalt shingles used in conjunction with the BIPV roofing <br />system must be shown to the satisfaction of the building <br />official, to meet the applicable requirements of IBC Section <br />1504 and IRC Section R905.2. The shingles must additionally <br />be classified as Class F in accordance with IBC Table 1504.2 <br />and IRC Table R905.2.4.1 and must have Class A fire <br />classification in accordance with IBC Section 1505 and IRC <br />Section R902. The asphalt shingles must be installed with the <br />same exposure as the BIPV modules, 7-9/16 inch. A <br />minimum of one course of shingles must be installed at <br />eaves and ridges. <br /> <br />GAF Timberline® Solar HD or Timberline® Solar HDZ asphalt <br />shingles must be installed with the manufacturer’s <br />installation instructions. The shingles are sized to provide <br />the same reveal as the Timberline Solar modules. <br /> <br />The Timberline Solar modules must be nailed to the roof <br />deck using six evenly spaced nails in the designated nailing <br />zone. Nails must be 10-12 gauge, barbed, deformed, or <br />smooth shank roofing nails with heads 3/8 in. to 7/16 in. <br />diameter, and must comply with ASTM F1667. Fasteners <br />must be long enough to penetrate at least 3/4 in. into wood <br />decks or through plywood or OSB sheathing.
