Vietnamese Alliance Church PV Orie2 Engineering
Santa Ana, CA February 14th, 2024
2

3.0 EXISTING STRUCTURES

1) Alliance Church
This building consists of a roof at a height of 31’‐0” with Spray on foam built up roofing on rigid
insulation over ½” plywood decking. The plywood deck spans across TJI joists that are supported by
glulam girder beams. The structure is approximately 71’‐6” wide by 105’‐6” long with wood stud walls.

4.0 PHOTOVOLTAIC PANEL RACKING SYSTEM & COMPONENTS

The racking system utilizes PanelClaw’s FR10 racking system. The solar module, racking, & racking components
are designed and verified by PanelClaw’s engineering team. Please refer to the PanelClaw drawings for
information on ballast block & attachment quantities and locations. Orie2 has coordinated with the racking
company by providing the mechanical attachment capacity for anchorage to the existing roof of the structure.
See Table 1 below for a summary of the PV array weights, maximum localized array distributed load, and
quantity of modules. The table provides our recommendations on the PV system size (to meet structural
constraints only, sizing for space and electrical constraints may be less), and weight limitations based on our
analysis. Note that the values in the table are from the racking company submittal and is for reference only.

Table 1: Photovoltaic Panel System Summary
Building Structure Amazon Fresno (DSJ5)
PV System Weight 13,841 lbs
Number of PV Modules 107 modules
Max Array Distributed Load 3.75 psf
*The quantity of modules will be limited due to the area of the roof that is available for solar, the
quantity shown here is based solely on seismic mass/structural constraints.

5.0 FINDINGS, RECOMMENDATIONS, & POTENTIAL DESIGN CHALLENGES

Based on our review of the as‐built roof framing plans, it is our professional opinion that the existing roof
framing members and structural elements are okay to support the weight and imposed loading from the
addition of the photovoltaic panel system & its racking components. The existing roof framing has been
checked for a maximum solar dead load of 5.0 psf (actual max array distributed load is shown in table 1), and
we determined that the PV system is okay to be installed on the existing structure. It is recommended that the
distributed array weight of the PV system be limited to 5 psf max.

2130 N Grand Ave
10/1/2024
