SCE Santa Ana
October 25,2019
Project No. 3.31634
Page 4

Shallow wet soils from rain could however be encountered during construction
depending upon the time of the year in which the site is excavated. If groundwater
and/or saturated soils are encountered during site grading, SGSI should be
contacted so that we may evaluate seepage/moisture conditions and provide
appropriate mitigation recommendations.

7. FAULTING

Based on our review, the site is not located within any “Earthquake Fault Zones” or
Alquist-Priolo Hazard Zones. Recent faulting (surface rupture less than 11,000 years ago)
and historic faults (surface rupture less than 200 years ago) are located regionally near
the site. Secondary effects of seismic shaking resulting from large earthquakes on the
major faults in the Southern California region, which may affect the site, include ground
lurching and shallow ground rupture, soil liquefaction, and dynamic settlement. The
closest active fault to the site is the San Joaquin Hills thrust located approximately 2.93
miles to the south of the site.

7.1 SAN JOAQUIN HILLS THRUST

The San Joaquin Hills thrust is a northeast-vergent blind thrust fault postulated to
underlie the San Joaquin Hills in the westernmost Peninsular Ranges. This fault is likely
associated with uplifted marine terraces and fold structure of San Joaquin Hills. Grant
and others (2002) infer that uplifted late Holocene marsh deposits in upper Newport
Bay and an emergent shoreline along the southwestern flank of San Joaquin Hills
indicates tectonic uplift due to an earthquake larger than M7 sometime between AD
1635 and AD 1855.

8. SEISMIC DESIGN CRITERIA

Site coordinates are 33.7326; -117.8484 and were acquired using the computer program
Google Earth. Table I presents the seismic parameters for use in preparing a Design
Response Spectra for the site. The site class is E, based upon the results of this investigation.

49 of 100
1327 S Grand Ave
12/12/2024
