Enphase, Energy// Rapid Shutdown
Rapid shutdown is built-in
The 2014 and 2017 editions of the National Electrical Code (NEC 2014/NEC
What's new In Section 690.12?
2017) added new rapid shutdown requirements for PV systems installed on
NEC 2014/2017, Section 690.12 applies
buildings. Enphase Microinverters fully meet rapid shutdown requirements 111
to PV conductors over 10 feet from
the new code without the need to install any additional electrical equipment.
the PV array and requires that the
conductors power down to 30 volts
and 240 volt-amperes within 10
seconds of rapid shutdown initiation.
String inverters require work arounds for rapid shutdown
Work around.
Specialized Rapid Shutdov,
electrical box installed on tt
roof within 10 feet of array.
Work around.
Shutoff switch that is
easily accessible to first
responders on the ground.
Work around.
Extra conduit in installation.
Residential String Inverter
Work around.
String inverter installed
on roof, a hostile
environment that string
Inverters are not built
to live in.
Commercial String Inverter
Enphase comes standard with rapid shutdown capability
All Enphase microin-
verters, even those that
were previously installed,
inherently meet rapid
shutdown requirements,
no additional equipment
or workarounds needed
Residential Microinverter
Enphase microinverters
can safely shut down
automatically, leaving
only low -voltage DC
electricity isolated to
the PV module
Commercial Microinverter
To learn more, visit enphase.com v E N P H A S E
QUICK INSTALL GUIDE ENPHASE
Install the Enphase IQ7, IQ7+, IQ7A, and IQ7X Microinverter
To install Enphase IQ Series Microinverters, read and follow all warnings and instructions in this guide and the Enphase IQ7, I07+, and IQ7X Microinverter
installation and Operation Manual at enohase.com/support- Safety warnings are listed at the end of this guide.
The Enphase microinverter models listed in this guide do not require grounding electrode conductors (GEC), equipment grounding conductors (EGC), or
grounded conductors (neutral). The microinverter has a Class II double -insulated rating, which includes ground fault protection (GFP). To support GFP use only
PV modules equipped with DC cables labeled 'PV Wire or'PV Cable".
IMPORTANT: The Enphase IQ Series Microinverters include AC and DC connectors integrated into the bulkhead. The AC port connects to an IQ Cable or IQ
Field Wlreable Connector. IQ7 Microinverter Seres has IQ DC bulkhead for DC connection and Q-DCC-2 bulkhead adapter cable for MC4 connection. UL has
evaluated the MC4 connector for intermatability with Staubli MC4 connectors, whose cable coupler models are'PV-KST4/...-UR, PV-KBT4/..: UR PV-KBT4-
EV02/.. -UR, and PV-KST4-EV02/.. -UR .
NOTE The installer must check the manufacturing date of the products to ensure that the installation date is within one year of the manufactured date of
the products. Contact your local distributor to validate the date code.
PREPARATION D) Ensure that you have the following items
A) Install the Enphase Installer App and open it to login
to your Enphase account. With this app, you can scan a
microinverter serial numbers and connect to the IQ Gate '
way to track system installation progress. To download, -
go to enphase cnm/installea= or scan the QR code.
B) Refer to the following table and check PV module
electrical compatibility at
enohase.com/errus/support/module-compatibility.
Modal
Dc mrxrctar
PV nwdub* cdl mud
IQ7-6o-2-US
Staubli MC4
Pair with 6011/120-halfcell modules
IQ7PIus-72-2-US
Staubh MC4
Pair with 60cell/120half-cell, 66-cell/132-
half-cell. w 72cell/144-half-cell
IQ7A-72-2-US
Staubli MC4
Pair with 60cell/120-half-cell,66-oe11/132-
halfcell, a 72-cell/144half-cell
IQ7X-96-2-US
Staubli MC4
Par only with 96od1 modules
' Enphase IQ Series Microinverters are compatible with bifaciaI PV modules if
thetemperabre-aqusted electrical parameters (maximum power, voltage, aril
current) ofthe modules, considering the front side electrical parameters (i.e., 0%
back side rein), are within the allowable rr croinverter input parameters range.
C) In addition to the Enphase microinverters, PV modules, and racking,
you will need the following Enphase items:
• IQ Gateway (model ENWQ-AM1-240) communications gateway or
IQ Combiner (check ennha m for models): Tomonnor solar production.
• Tie wraps or cable clips (Q-CUP-1 00)
• IQ Sealing Caps (0-SEAL-10): For any unused connectors on the IQ Cable
• IQTerminator (Q-TERM-1%One required atthe end of eachAC cable
segment
• IQ Disconnect Tod (Q-DISC-10)
10 Cable
Cable model
Cornector
PV module orientation
Conrxsctors
apadng*
per box
AC junction box.
• Tools: Screwdrivers, wire cutter, voltmeter, torque wrench, sockets, and
wrenches for mounting hardware.
E) Protect your system with lightning and surge suppression devices- it
is also important to have insurance that protects against lightning and
electrical surges.
F) Plan your AC branch circuits to meet the following limits for the
maximum number of microinverters per branch when protected with a
20 A over -current protection device (OCPD).
Maximum* nurrdw of IQ Mivoimersers per AC branch circuit - angle -phase
240 V
IQ7
IQ7+
IQ7A IQ7X
16
13
11 12
208 V
IQ7
IQ7+
IQ7A IQ7X
13
11
11 10
* Limits may vary. Refer to the local requirements to define the number of
microinverters per branch in your area.
G ) Size the AC wire gauge to account for voltage rise- Select the wire
size based on the distance from the beginning of the IQ Cable to the
breaker in the load center. Design for a voltage nse of less than 2% for
these sections. Fordetails, referto the Voltage Rise-Fechnical Brief at
enphasecom/support
Best practice: Center -feed the branch circuit to minimize voltage rise in
a fully -populated branch.
III I1111111111111111111111111111111111111 I I I11
140-00196-04
CONTRACTOR
Approved
FOR PERMIT ISSUAN
r.
