Job Name: Muller Santa Ana
Job Number: 2021-SRS004
Date: 11/9/21
column with 1/4" fillets. The base plate has a 4.5" x 4.5" anchor bolt spread utilizing
four 7/8" diameter anchors.
Beam-to-Beam Moment Splices:
At W21x44 beams: 1" thick x 7-1/2" wide x 27-11/16" tall mating plates welded to
the end of each beam with full penetration welds. These plates bolt together
in the field using eight 3/4" diameter A325N bolts.
Beam-to-Column Connections: 1" thick x 8.5" wide x 24" long mating plate welded to
top of column with full penetration welds all around. Bolted to the bottom flange of
the beam in the field with eight A325N bolts: use 3/4" diameter at the W21x44. The
plate stiffeners at the beam will be welded to the beam with 1/2" fillets: use 3/4" thick
plate at the W21x44. At column B9, the plate can be 21.5" long instead.
Hilti Connection Design (See Appendix C):
The worst-case loading conditions were analyzed for each existing garage anchorage
case. Notice that in many of the anchorage calculations, the anchors show a failure
condition in concrete breakout. Hilti Profis, unfortunately, does not check conditions
for transfer of the loading to adjacent rebar. Some of those connection will need
further analysis here to prove them.
Connections at A10, A11, B1, B15, C3, C4, C15, D3, D4 & E1:
See Calculations C1 & C2
All of these columns rise above the deck and can be fastened directly into from the
top with epoxy bolts. The worst-case loading for these is at A11 and D4. Both of
these work.
Connection at C12, C13 and C14:
These connections do not actually anchor to the concrete at all. Instead, they
employ four threaded rod anchor bolts that drop thru the slab and saddle around the
concrete beam below. The shear from the columns is transfered from the anchor rods
to the slab.
Connections at C5 thru C11 (excluding C6-C8) and D5 thru D11:
See Calculations C3 and C4
All of these columns rise above the deck and can be fastened directly into from the
top with epoxy bolts. Due to constraints at these columns, the standard base plate
Page 3
2677 N Main St -
101110159-60 &
20175958-5902/07/23
