CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />SPECIFICATIONS <br />PROJECT NO.: XX-XXXX <br />PROJECT TITLE <br /> <br />63 <br />Asphalt <br />The Asphalt for Types A and B shall conform to Subsections 600-2.2.4 and 600-2.2.5, <br />respectively, and shall be viscosity grade AR-4000. <br />Asphalt-rubber shall be placed in accordance with Section 600-2.7.4. <br />Application shall be stopped before the distribution tank is empty to assure application <br />does not run light. <br />All reasonable precautions shall be taken to avoid skips at joints and to protect the <br />surfaces of adjacent structures from being spattered or marred. Correction of any such <br />defects shall be made at no expense to the AGENCY. <br />Hot joints shall be made utilizing a squeegee man between the boot truck and the chip <br />spreader to spread out or rake off overlaps or excess applications of the asphalt-rubber. <br />The longitudinal joint between adjacent applications of screenings shall coincide with the <br />line between designated traffic lanes. <br />Just before spreading asphalt-rubber, Contractor shall provide a measure of viscosity with <br />a Haake hand-held viscosity meter, if requested by the Engineer. Viscosity shall be as <br />specified in the standard specifications. <br />The distributor shall also include a tachometer, pressure gauge, volume measuring device <br />and a thermometer. <br />When a job delay occurs after full reaction, the asphalt-rubber may be allowed to cool. <br />Just prior to restart of application, the material shall be reheated slowly to a temperature <br />not less than 375 degrees F nor more than 400 degrees F. <br />Cover Aggregate <br />This section shall conform with Section 600-2.7.5. <br />If the aggregate chips bounce or roll after striking the asphalt-rubber, the spreader shall <br />be operated at reduced speed. <br /> <br />505 E Central Ave <br />#B11/6/2024
