CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />SPECIFICATIONS <br />PROJECT NO.: XX-XXXX <br />PROJECT TITLE <br /> <br />139 <br />health or safety reasons shall be pruned at any time of the year as required to <br />eliminate these conditions. <br />d. Remove damaged or diseased growth from trees and shrubs. Treat cuts larger <br />than 1/2-inch in diameter with tree paint. <br />2. Shrubs <br />a. The objective of shrub pruning is the same as for trees. Shrubs shall not be <br />clipped into balled or boxed forms unless such is required by the design and <br />directed by the Engineer. <br />C. FERTILIZING: <br />1. Apply top-dress fertilizer to groundcover areas at the rate of 50 pounds per 1,000 <br />square feet at 25 days and 50 days after beginning of maintenance period. <br />2. Gro-Power Plus shall be applied at the rate of 20 pounds per 1,000 square feet to <br />all lawn areas 25 days and 50 days after the maintenance period is initiated. <br />D. STAKING AND GUYING: Re-stake, tighten, and repair guys. Reset to proper grades <br />or upright position any plants that are not in their proper growing position. Stakes and <br />guys are to be inspected to prevent girdling of trunks or branches and to prevent <br />rubbing that causes bark wounds. Replace all broken stakes and ties with specified <br />materials. <br />E. REPLACEMENT OF PLANTS: Immediately remove any dead or dying plants not in <br />a vigorous thriving condition. Replacement shall be same species and size as what <br />was originally planted. <br />5.03.07 GROUNDCOVER CARE <br />A. WEED CONTROL: Control weeds, with chemical systemic spray or by mechanical <br />means so as to cause minimal damage to planted materials. <br />B. WATERING: Water enough that moisture penetrates throughout the root zone and <br />only as frequently as necessary to maintain healthy growth. <br />C. FERTILIZING: Fertilize as specified under Tree and Shrub care <br />D. EDGING: Edge ground cover to keep in bounds and trim top growth as necessary to <br />achieve an overall even appearance. <br />E.
