CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />SPECIFICATIONS <br />PROJECT NO.: XX-XXXX <br />PROJECT TITLE <br /> <br />178 <br />All nuts, bolts and washers shall be Type 316 stainless steel and shall have NON-OXIDE <br />GREASE or anti-seize compound applied to the threads prior to installation and <br />reapplied prior to wrapping. <br />When crossing existing water main or service line, Contractor shall adjust grade as <br />necessary to install the new main beneath the existing facility, unless otherwise directed <br />by the Engineer. <br />When making connections to existing water main or service line, Contractor shall provide <br />all fittings necessary (i.e. tees, bends, adaptors, etc.) to adjust the grade and alignment as <br />needed to facilitate the connection. <br />When there are specific locations indicated on the plans where it is known that additional <br />excavation will be required to avoid conflicts with other utilities, these locations and <br />required depths are clearly noted on the plans. <br />PVC pipe shall be marked with the following information <br /> Manufacturer and Trade Name <br /> Nominal Size and DR Rating/Pressure Class <br /> NSF-61 Certification <br /> Hydrostatic Proof- Test Pressure <br /> Manufacturing Date <br />Pipe shall not be stored in direct sunlight. Pipe stored outdoors shall be protected from <br />the natural elements by covering it with opaque material such as canvas. The covering <br />shall be placed in such a way as to allow adequate air circulation between the cover and <br />the pipe. Discolored pipe will not be allowed. Individual pipe sections shall not be <br />stacked in piles higher than five feet. The pipe shall not be stored next heat sources or <br />engine exhausts. All gaskets should be protected from heat, oil and grease. <br />All pipe segments shall be sound and clean before placed in the ground. PVC pipe cutting <br />shall be done with a machine at right angles to the axis of the pipe. Cut end to be joined <br />with a bell shall be beveled to conform to the spigot end. <br />Hydrostatic testing: pressure and leakage tests shall be in accordance with the applicable <br />provisions of AWWA Standard C600-05. The line shall be tested at a pressure of 200 <br />psi. <br />Hydrostatic pressure testing of the main shall not be performed directly against a valve. <br />A steel test plate shall be inserted between the valve and main when performing <br />hydrostatic pressure testing. <br />All new pipelines and appurtenances shall be chlorinated and disinfected in accordance <br />with AWWA Standard C651-99 “Disinfecting Water Mains” and shall meet all health <br />department standards.
