All chemical applications used for soil treatment are subject to the approval of the Owner. <br />B. Recommended termiticide: Chlorpyrifos “Dursban TC”, or “Permetrin Torpedo” or “Dragnet”, <br />or approved equal. <br />C. Do not apply soil treatment solution until excavating, filling and grading operations are <br />completed and prior to any membrane being placed beginning concrete placement or other <br />construction activities. <br />D. To ensure penetration, do not apply soil treatment to excessively wet soils or during inclement <br />weather. Comply with handling and application instruction of soil toxicant manufacturer. <br />E. Remove foreign matter which could decrease effectiveness of treatment on areas to be treated. <br />Loosen, rake, and level soil to be treated, except previously compacted areas under foundations. <br />F. Apply soil treatment solution at rates recommended by soil toxicant manufacturer. <br />G. Allow not less than 12 hours for drying after application, before beginning concrete placement <br />or other construction activities <br />H. Reapply soil treatment solution to areas disturbed by subsequent excavation or other <br />construction activities following application. <br />3.13 BACKFILL <br />A. Place and compact backfill in excavations promptly, but not before completing the following: <br />1. Acceptance of construction below finish grade including, where applicable, subdrainage, <br />damp-proofing, waterproofing, and perimeter insulation. <br />2. Surveying locations of underground utilities for Record Documents. <br />3. Testing and inspecting underground utilities. <br />4. Removing concrete formwork. <br />5. Removing trash and debris. <br />6. Removing temporary shoring and bracing, and sheeting. <br />7. Installing permanent or temporary horizontal bracing on horizontally supported walls. <br />B. Place backfill on subgrades free of mud, frost, snow, or ice. <br />3.14 UTILITY TRENCH BACKFILL AND COMPACTION <br />A. Backfilling of exterior utility trenches shall not be undertaken until geotechnical engineer has <br />received 24-hours notice, until required tests and inspections have been completed, and until as- <br />built location notes have been furnished. Remove uninspected backfill in accordance with <br />requirements of this specification. Use hand-operated, plate-type, vibratory, or other suitable <br />hand tampers in areas not accessible to larger rollers or compactors. Avoid damaging pipes and <br />protective pipe coatings.
