Improve economic empowerment of Santa Ana residents through the creation of more small businesses <br />and employment opportunities. In-home childcare providers tend to be low-income and, because the providers often <br />'gave young children of their own, are often not wage earners themselves. The creation of more childcare businesses will <br />'esult in greater employment (and therefore economic empowerment) for the individual providers. Moreover, as the <br />ousinesses grow and succeed, they will provide additional employment opportunities in the community for additional <br />-aregivers. <br />Access to childcare services for Santa Ana residents. As the number of childcare providers increase, so do the number <br />3f residents with young children who are able to see employment. For example, a small in-home childcare provider can <br />Drovided care for up to 6-8 children, and a large in-home provider can serve up to 12- 14 families. Therefore, PLC's legal <br />services will assist not only the childcare providers gain economic empowerment, but also the families that they serve. <br />Likewise, by assisting other types of caregiver businesses (e.g., nonmedical caregiving), family members that are <br />unemployed or underemployed due to their need to care for an elderly or disabled relative, PLC's services will help <br />enable those individuals increase their economic empowerment. <br />Increase the capacity of nonprofits organizations to provide child and dependent care services for their clients. <br />Ensure that caregivers are kept up to date with legal and regulatory changes affecting their <br />businesses. <br />Community outreach: quarterly workshops; quarterly legal clinics <br />Direct legal services: Provide assistance to 10 prospective or existing caregivers and 25 consumer clients. Each case <br />will be recorded and monitored through our electronic case filing system and our case management system. Cases are <br />reviewed unit -wide on a weekly basis and the project will be reviewed on a quarterly basis. As a legal organization, PLC <br />tracks all cases and matters in an uniform, organizational -wide manner. <br />Workers Cooperatives: Provide legal advice and counsel to a minimum of 3 prospective or existing Santa Ana -based <br />workers cooperatives. <br />Nonprofits: Provide legal advice and counsel to a minimum of 5 nonprofit organizations who currently offer or are <br />considering offering childcare services for their clients. <br />Advocacy: prepare quarterly newsletters/e-blasts on legal issues affecting caregiver industry <br />EXHIBIT A <br />
