Project Access' ongoing programming is offered year-round, five days a week, and at -no -cost to residents. Services
are delivered at Family Resource Centers, which serve as "one -stop -shop" community hubs that provide low-income
families with the resources needed to achieve financial self-sufficiency. Project Access'abilityto serve family members
over a long period of time and place -based approach to fighting poverty creates an ideal model for addressing gaps in the
social services system at a grassroots community level. The program provides low-income adults with concrete
assistance so that they are able to maximize their financial assets, learn employable skills, and expand their economic
opportunities. The program also provides high-quality after-school programming for youth, equipping them with the
practical tools and resources needed to break the cycle of poverty—ultimately transforming lives. Key initiatives include:
• Financial Literacy—Project Access partners with financial institutions to present rigorous workshops at our
resource centers. Key topics include banking, credit, budgeting, debt reduction, taxes, fraud prevention, healthy spending
habits, short- and long-term savings, and a two -track incentivized savings program for families. Participants who attend
workshops develop essential personal finance skills, including smart money management, debt reduction, banking, tax
form completion, and spending tracking. Residents can schedule case management sessions attheir own convenience to
receive individualized support and linkages to programs such as Food Stamps/Cal Fresh, Home Energy Assistance, and
the Earned Income Tax Credit. These one -on -ane counseling sessions give participants direct access to a variety of tools
that secure their financial resources and stabilize their financial situation so that they are no longer living paycheck to
paycheck. Furthermore, Project Access preserves the economic stability of seniors by providing education regarding
"senior scams" and fraudulent activity that targets aging adults.
• Employment Skill-Building—We provide low-income adults with job search assistance, resume writing, mock
interviews, and skill -building so that they are able to seek out employment that pays significantly more than
minimum wage. Non-native English speakers are able to attend onsite Second Language Acquisition classes, which
prime them for future employment opportunities. Additionally, each Project Access resource center is equipped with
a fully operational computer lab with Internet access. Resident Service Coordinators lead adults and seniors through
online banking services, automatic bill payment walkthroughs, digital research strategies, and technology/device
literacy classes that build employable skills and prepare low-income individuals for stable, meaningful employment.
• Health and Wellness— Project Access promotes health and wellness knowledge -building to low-income
populations living in the shadows. Our Family and Senior Resource Centers provide health and nutrition workshops,
healthy supplemental food, health resource fairs, preventative screenings, and insurance assistance to low-income
families. Additionally, Project Access' "Healthy Eating, Active Living" Program engages youth with group fitness,
sports games, greenspace exposure, nutrition workshops, and free -play, filling a much-needed gap in out -of -
classroom physical activity programming for youth.
