Michael Baker prepared an initial <br />study with proposed mitigated negative declaration for an upgrade to the City of Cypress Pump <br />Station No. 1. The city proposed to demolish the existing station and two residential structures <br />in order to construct a new, upgraded pump station facility. Specific issues included potential <br />impacts associated with growth Inducement, physical division of an established community, and <br />aesthetic impacts associated with the degradation of character and quality within an existing <br />residential community, <br />Poseidon Seawater Desalination Project, Huntington Beach, California. City of Huntington <br />Beach. Project Coordinator. Responsible for environmental documentation and overall project <br />coordination. Michael Baker completed the final environmental impact report {EIR} for a 50- <br />million-gallons-per-day (mgd) seawater desalination facility to be sited adjacent to the AES <br />Huntington Beach Generating Station. The project consisted of seawater intake pretreatment <br />facilities, a seawater desalination plant using reverse osmosis technology, post-treatment <br />facilities, product water storage, chemical storage, on- and off-site booster pumps, and 24- to <br />48-Inch -diameter product water transmission pipelines up to 10 miles in length. Key short-term <br />project issues included hydrology and water quality, air quality, noise, utilities, aesthetics, <br />hazardous materials, traffic, and biological/cultural resources. The EIR analysis also included an <br />in-depth examination of long-term impacts, including geological Issues; marine water quality; air <br />quality; impacts to public services and utilities; impacts regarding aesthetics, light, and glare; <br />and hazardous materials impacts. <br />China I Dasalter Expansion and Chino It Desalter Projects, California. Chino Basin <br />Desaiters Authority. Environmental Manager. Responsible for the subsequent EIR. Michael <br />Baker provided engineering services to the Chino Basin Desalter Authority {CDA} for the <br />multimillion-dollar Chino I Desalter Expansion and Chino II Desalter projects.
