Vocational Skills: Works with a range of specialized programs to offer vocational <br />training classes to reentry program participants. The training classes inmates can <br />access include (1) Custodial — Inmates learn a variety of skills in the custodial and <br />housekeeping trades, equipment maintenance and repair, and cleaning materials <br />safety, (2) Computer Skills — Inmates learn basic computer skills and Microsoft Office <br />software as well as telephone answering skills, filing techniques, and other office <br />tasks, (3) Safety and Sanitation — Inmates learn kitchen safety and sanitary skills for <br />working in a kitchen setting, and (4) Culinary Arts — Inmates learn basic culinary skills <br />and are prepared for jobs in the food service industry. <br />The specific number of dedicated reentry program specialists and their scope of <br />duties and areas of responsibility are summarized in the following Chart. <br />These reentry specialists should also be supplemented with a core group of <br />knowledgeable professional community-based service providers who can work with <br />inmates to facilitate the transitional process of offenders from the City Jail to the <br />community. Through new collaborative partnerships with qualified and experienced <br />private community-based providers, faith -based groups and other organizations <br />80 <br />65A-87 <br />Reentry inmate <br />DedicatedJail <br />Services <br />Number of <br />Title <br />Positions <br />Scope of Duties <br />Supervises and coordinates reentry programs for offenders. <br />The programs are intended to reduce recidivism and include <br />education / vocational and treatment programs. Identify <br />Reentry Supervisor <br />1 <br />offenders' needs and coordinate in- and out -of -custody <br />services that facilitate reentry into the community by creating <br />partnerships with educational / vocational organizations, <br />private community-based organizations and businesses. <br />Develops and implements reentry services for pre- and post - <br />release offenders. Develops partnerships to bring services to <br />Reentry Services <br />Z <br />offenders. Seeks grant funding for pre- and post -entry <br />Resource Officer <br />services. Creates procedures and protocol for one <br />continuous system of rare based on an offender <br />individualized needs assessment. <br />Interviews inmates and schedules them for classes such as <br />GED, batterer treatment, anger management, substance <br />abuse, etc. Insures inmate has life tools upon release, i.e., ID <br />card, SSI, job placement, post -release services. Verifies <br />Education and Life <br />accuracy in regards to housing locations and job <br />Program Coordinator <br />assignments. Serves as liaison between education staff and <br />Jail to ensure inmates attend scheduled classes. Verifies <br />class enrollment lists and update any changes. <br />Communicates daily with inmates in regards to job <br />assignments and classes. Other duties as assigned. <br />Conducts interview assessments with reentry program <br />inmates to determine barriers to their successful integration <br />into society. Provides information to inmates regarding <br />Social Workers <br />2 <br />various programs available to assist them in and out of <br />custody. Works as a liaison between Child Protective <br />Services (CPS) and the inmate. Assist the families of <br />inmates with issues regarding children or medical <br />emergencies. Assists inmates with handling personal <br />business matters as deemed appropriate. <br />These reentry specialists should also be supplemented with a core group of <br />knowledgeable professional community-based service providers who can work with <br />inmates to facilitate the transitional process of offenders from the City Jail to the <br />community.
