FRANK M. DOYLE ARTS PAVILION
April 23, 2018
To the Santa Ana Arts and Culture Commission Selection Committee:
I am writing in support of the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art's application
for "Investing In the Artist Grant Opportunity 2018 for Art Organizations." I have
interacted with OCCCA over nearly twenty years since it moved to its location in the
Santa Ana Arts District.
On two occasions, I have a been a guest juror for exhibitions there. In both instances,
the staff acted in a professional manner with both myself and the artists involved. The
attraction to working with OCCCA is their commitment to making a professional gallery
environment for both artists early in their careers and those much further into it, often
bringing multiple generations together. But, for me, a primary attraction is that OCCCA
has created a place for rich dialogue between artists and how art functions in society at
large, especially in Santa Ana, which has seen so much transition since the
establishment of the Arts District.
I have returned to Orange County, after being at UC Riverside's ARTSblock for eleven
years, as the new director at Orange Coast College's Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion.
mention this because one of the organizations high of my list for partnership is OCCCA.
I share their values of social engagement, critical dialogue, and an incubator of new
ideas in the arts.
In essence, OCCCA deserves support from the Santa Ana Arts and Culture
Commission, as it has proven itself an indispensable venue for artists in a time of
shrinking opportunities, while also conducting outreach and creating education
programs that make the art showcased accessible, which generates a feeling of
ownership by visitors and by the local community.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any additional questions at 714-432-5102,
tstallings anocc.cccd.edu.
Sincerely,
Tyler Stallings, Director
Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion
0 ORANGE COAST COLLEGE
2701 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa, CA 92626, www.oraiigecois[college.edu
