Each such assignment may be terminated at any time, but in no event shall <br />such assignment continue beyond one hundred eighty (180) days of such <br />assignment. <br />Prior to recommending to the City Manager that a pay differential for a <br />Temporary Upgrade Assignment be granted, the Department Head shall <br />make the following determinations: <br />a. The duties and responsibilities of the position to be filled are of such <br />nature that they cannot remain unassigned pending the return to duty <br />of the absent incumbent or preparation of an eligible list whichever <br />is applicable. <br />b. It is not practical to assign the duties of the vacant position to any <br />other.employee or employees in the same or higher classification. <br />4. The City Manager or his designee must give written approval of all <br />Temporary Upgrade Assignments involving an increase in pay for the <br />appointee. <br />& Eligibility. <br />With the exception of those described in paragraph 3 below, regular, full- <br />time employees shall receive Temporary Upgrade Assignment Pay if the <br />following criteria are met: <br />a. The work assumed encompasses the majority of the typical dutics <br />and responsibilities of the vacated position. <br />b. To qualify for temporary upgrade assignment pay, employees must <br />serve in an acting capacity in the higher level classification as <br />follows: <br />• ten (10) consecutive working days of eight (8) hours each; <br />or <br />• eight (8) consecutive working days of ten (10) hours each, <br />for employees working on an alternative work schedule; or <br />• any combination of consecutive working days consisting of <br />nine (9) hours each and one (1) working day consisting of <br />eight (8) hours, for a total of 80 hours of work for employees <br />working the "9/80"work schedule; or <br />• two (2) consecutive workweeks, consisting of three (3) 11.5 <br />hour days and one (1) 5.5 hour clay for a total of 80 hours of <br />work for employees working on an alternative work <br />schedule. <br />19 <br />
