LEGISLATIVE PLATFORM <br />Community Safety <br />A safe and secure community is essential to the quality of life and economic success of the City <br />of Santa Ana. The city is committed to a high level of public safety and partnering with the <br />community to maintain a safe and secure city. <br />Police Officer <br />Support legislation that increases <br />Ratio <br />funding for cities to increase the <br />police officer to community ratio. <br />i <br />i <br />i <br />Body Camera <br />Support and advocate for legislation <br />Program <br />that helps the city acquire funding for <br />a one-to-one ratio for body cameras, <br />and body camera memory storage. , <br />i <br />(SAPD) The Department has an <br />ongoing commitment to hire and <br />retain officers. This assurance is best <br />exemplified through our consistent <br />and ongoing emphasis on enhancing <br />the hiring process. Through the <br />expansion of both the Background <br />and Recruitment Units, streamlined <br />hiring practices and the creation of a <br />recruitment unit the Department is <br />currently experiencing <br />unprecedented hiring success. <br />(SAPD) Santa Ana's Officer to <br />Community ratio remains exceedingly <br />low and can only be ultimately raised <br />through additional government <br />support (grants). <br />(TPA) Monitored several bills related <br />to body camera, procedures, and <br />protocol for body camera footage. <br />(TPA) AB 748 was passed in California, <br />which is related to the disclosure of <br />certain video or audio recordings of <br />critical incidents. <br />(SAPD) Department was awarded a <br />$100,000 grant to fund body cameras <br />and body camera memory storage. <br />Enhance Public Support State and Federal legislation (SAPD) Department published its <br />- - - <br />65A-26 City of Santa Ana Legislative Scorecard 2018 8 <br />
