Homework, etc. Both the Library and the Recreation department has over <br />1000 volunteers. <br />o Councilmember Benavides asked about the coaches and assistant coaches. <br />o Exec. Director Pham indicated the program will prohibit bringing back <br />individuals as volunteers that are retired in a similar function. <br />o Interim Director Nunez indicated the Santa Ana Zoo also has a number of <br />volunteers that help at the zoo. <br />o Tania Knauerhaze indicated staff will be assigned to review the volunteers <br />needed in a city wide process. <br />o Councilmember Villegas indicated it is important to have Life scan on the <br />volunteers and asked will the Life scan be on file with the city. <br />o Exec. Director Pham indicated the city will keep the information for one time <br />Life scan. If the volunteer returns city may require another type of Life scan. <br />o Councilmember Villegas asked do we update the Life scan and notify other <br />agencies. <br />4. UPDATE ON THE COMMUNITY GARDEN PROGRAM <br />o Veronica De Lol Roach provided an update on the Community Garden <br />Program. Indicated we have 5 community gardens that are open to the <br />public. We hold free workshops at all gardens, volunteer hours are <br />available for all ages, established programs with AfterscI I Adventure, <br />Summer camps and pre-school programs, Senior gardening classes, <br />volunteer recruitment, youth volunteer field trips and neighborhood events. <br />Veronica presented the summer gardening schedule for the 5 locations. <br />She indicated everyone works together and share the harvest. The garden <br />workshops are held on Saturdays. The program also obtain food waste <br />from various establishments to prepare a compost pile with hay. <br />o Councilmember Benavides appreciated the thorough presentation on the <br />community garden program. He is glad to see adult and children volunteer <br />to work on the community garden. <br />5. GODINEZ JOINT USE AGREEMENT UPDATE <br />o Enrique Marban indicated at the Joint Use Policy Committee meeting <br />there was a question on the Godinez Joint Use Agreement and asked staff <br />to follow up. Staff met with the Technical Advisory committee and <br />reviewed the joint use report with district staff. Both the district staff and <br />the city staff agreed with the process and there is no changes proposed <br />for the agreement. Enrique indicated that vending at the stadium was <br />offered to all the SA High schools and SA High School is able to vend at <br />the stadium. <br />o Councilmember Benavides indicated we need to continue to communicate <br />with SAUSD, The district is planning on placing a bond measure on the <br />ballot and are proposing to make improvements on Godinez High School. <br />The proposed improvements are encroaching on the park. We need to <br />iron out any conflicts and identify the benefits with the community. <br />Proposed improvements include fencing, swimming pool, tennis courts. <br />Youth, Rec. & Comm.
